Livingstone is good for a few overs but not 10. Root is probably good for 3 or 4 and similar for Bethell. We do need a specialist 2nd spinner. That applies to the t20 team as well.
You could argue that Australia won the last World Cup (in India) with one specialist spinner (Zampa) and a couple of fill ins (Maxwell, Head).

Oh Zampa was quite a big factor for them, but we have a declining Rashid and our pace bowling options in the last world cup were skank compared with 2019. There is some obvious promise now with Archer and Saqib back as well as Carse in the pace department, but we really do need the younger spinners to step up and probably an off spinner wouldn't go a miss, either.

Stapel

International Regular
From cricinfo: "he hangs back and punches it between backward point and cover-point."

Why not simply say: "punches it through point"?

England opt to bat and decent start. Salt either playing out maidens or hacking boundaries. There seems to be a targetted assault on Harshit, can't think why....26 runs off his 3rd over!!

Actually put it on today. FFS KP on comms.

This is a good start but it makes you appreciate how good Roy/Hales and Bairstow at the top were for such a long time as they got us off to a flyer so often and haven't been replaced.

That daft run out really has shifted everything. From being totally in charge to now being in a mess 2 overs later.

These 2 need to knock it around for 30 overs, I guess they're the most likely to succeed at it.

Another day of being incapable of batting out an innings duration... Buttler gets grief for batting second and conceding 350, but we're even worse at setting a total.
