I am kinda gobsmacked how folks who regularly watched cricket can downplay a destructive power hitter and have them at the same level as an accumulator, all other factors equal. They pretend opposing teams and bowlers are robots not affected by momentum at all.

We just saw an Aus vs India series where the Konstantis cameo knock was arguably the seminal passage of play in the series. It wasn't just the runs, it was the audacity that had a clear psychological effect.

Viv did the same and we have the pacers of the time attest to this. He wasn't scoring runs but scoring them in a way that put a real dampener on the opposing team.

His peak wasn't just qualitatively better than Smiths because of the bowlers and pitches but how he scored which was unprecedented.

Australia weren't supposed to have such a huge opening stand. India ended up wasting the new ball. On another day, Aus could have been 50/3. The opening stand set the platform for a huge 1st inns total which kinda killed India.

Sorry it was. And even if you want to argue it wasn't, it was a really important moment regardless.
The only important thing was the runs he added. Had Australia had an opener who could bat long and scored those same runs, they would have been better. It didn't really bothered Bumrah much really, he was temporarily countered but that could had been done by sticking to the pitch as well. If 30 odd fast runs is enough to disrupt a team, that team was never in competition.

Konstas scored 60 runs, not 30
Opening stand 89 runs
Wowza!! Like, in a 5 match Test series, one such opening stint is quite below par honestly. Australia won the match just before with Head and Smith going big and by the 3rd match it was apparent it was Bumrah vs Australia. Konstas on his debut faced Bumrah admirably, with an attacking approach. Its commendable. But that's it. Webster was the more important debutant this series.

Also like, Australian opening in this India tour was really fragile and they were desperately searching for someone to just survive the initial Bumrah overs and not expose their middle order. In context, it's really not what Australia was looking for.

Nonsense. He counterattacked and got Bumrah off his line. If Australia scratched to 89 in 40 overs and lost him, odds they get to 400 plus are much less.

Revisionism.

That konstas innings has become such a meme. Good knock but completely ridiculous how much it's being hyped up in some quarters. It's almost like a better version of the Quiney 9.
That innings as far as quality wasn't that great. It was chancey and slogging. But in terms of impact it did make a notable difference.
