**Official** English Football Season 2024/25

Well just about everything that happened in that match was incredibly annoying.
That's how I felt about our match the previous Sunday. I only saw the second half tbf, when Brentford were markedly the better team, and 1-2 flattered my boys. But the penalty was the result of some keystone cops defending and we just made so many basic errors across the pitch.

But that was then. And now we get this weekend's results. It just seems that the middle 50% of the league will take points off each other depending on who's fit and available, and in form.

I like this person. Welcome to CW mate.
How long have you been supporting Palace?
Thanks mate!

Pretty much since birth (1993). First game was the intertoto cup game under Venables; first season ticket was in the 2001-01 season, remember being gutted I couldn't get a Stockport ticket!

No plastic here ;)

Rashford to Villa is a really interesting one.

He's been very streaky over the years but considering he has had 7 managers in the last 9 years, its obviously not the best environment for young players so going to Villa who area competent team with a gun manager could bring him back to life.

Dragusin supposedly out with Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury, so that Spurs defense still looks very light on backup with only one defensive signing. Guess we'll see more midfielders playing in defense then!

Danny Welbeck mark II IMHO.
Discount Danny Welbeck perhaps.

He's a better finisher than good old Danny, and less injury susceptible, but otherwise Danny's the better player for mine. One of those quietly awesome players.

Mind you, even Danny doesn't seem to have been that injury prone for the last few years. Just realised he's now amassed more appearances for Brighton than he managed for any other club in his entire career. WAG.

Yeah, not sure I'm quite as fully a paid up member of the DW fanclub as yourself, but he is one of those players who carries the "unsung" tag with him.

Not super thrilled by it tbh. Hope he comes good of course! And we could use some kinda boost in attack. But I've never particularly rated him as a player, and the circumstances of him leaving United obviously aren't good. Also not thrilled at how much of the Duran sale money is being used immediately on half-season loans.

Disasi was the more important get given our defensive stocks had hit Spursian levels.

Yeah I mean he's no world-beater, but he's awesome imo. Such a useful player to have as an option in your squad.

I always particularly liked him as an option playing in a wide position in games against opposition who had significant attacking threats from out wide themselves. Bloke would just run and run and run, which would help keep opposition in check, and provide reliable cover and support for the fullback. But then with the ball he could actually move it about a bit, bring other players into the game, and provide a bit of goal threat himself. I always thought he was a bit crap, but then when I watched Man Utd play Real Madrid in the CL in 2012 (the game where Nani got sent off and Modric then came on to just run rings around everyone) I saw what he was all about, and rated him ever since.

One of my weird footballing hills to die on is that Southgate bringing on Vardy instead of Welbeck against Croatia in the 2018 WC semi-final was quietly one of the biggest tactical blunders of his entire tenure. Absolutely nonsense sub given the context/situation at the time.

Rashford nowhere near Welbeck in terms of technical ability.

I find it funny he was shopped around to all the big European sides yet ended up in Birmingham. Not to say Villa isn't a great destination for him but I would bet he thought he was going to PSG, Bayern, Barca, Inter, Dortmund etc.

I think he should have gone abroad and rebuilt his career away from the prem and the UK press. Could be the plan for the summer.

He's a more clinical finisher but I'll die on the hill that Rashford is not a great technical footballer. In a generation with the likes of Salah, Sane, Gnabry, Vini Jr, Kvaratskhelia, Mahrez, Di Maria etc. that bar is high, at least for me.

Even comparing him to someone English like Sancho or Saka, its not remotely close. Hell, you can even include Grealish if you want.

Positively Arsenal must have a nightmare explaining how old he is each time he's asked.
My brother is a sports medical doctor. He actually did pitchside dr duties for some professional clubs. He told me of one instance when a certain player he did a medical for, ahead of signing for a club was supposedly 28 years old but he suggested was likely around 4 years older than that. It should be said that said player was from an African country.
