Who is better test batsmen?
Gavaskar dominated the best bolwers of his generation , viv Richards Never faced them.

dominated WI is a stretch, he averages about 40 against the fearsome four iirc, far from domination but not far from the ceiling against them. maybe he'd reach mid 40s if you include his 1976 tour, I wouldn't.

76 was against Holding at pretty much his fullest and Roberts in 2 games (includes a century). Really no reason to not include it

I feel like rating Gavaskar higher because he was an opener and in a difficult era.. but Viv was a complete batter (while Gavaskar had a few limitations). Viv could do anything. I look at overall batsmanship of a batter when rating them. Thus Viv > Gavaskar
