I literally wanted a video this week where he said Hobbs and Sachin are 2 and 3. He was referencing his book.

So unless Sachin had a big innings in January, yeah, he's no. 3.
It was the opposite, I've seen that multiple times. He actually also said, Sachin is the only one who he can make a case for being as good as the Don due to the longevity of the greatness (which actually applies to Hobbs also but he said it for Sachin).

He rates him very highly. The decision between him and Gavaskar would be what approach he's looking for.

Hobbs he rates 2nd best all time behind only Bradman.

He rates Sachin and Smith equals at this moment as best since Bradman.

The decision between Gilchrist and Knott would be determined by his choice between Imran and Bumrah. If he goes Bumrah would likely go with Gilly's extra batting.

He's called Marshall very arguably the greatest seamer ever and McGrath the greatest new ball bowler.

Again, just guessing based on what he's said and the team he was building with Bumble.

But he rates Bumrah and Smith really highly.

Smith a couple of years back was unanimously rated as best after Bradman but now again same people are rating him below tendulkar. Imo how he manages his from from now to retirement would be key where he will end up. If he hits another peak he would best after bradman but if he declines would be rated below viv/ tendulkar/lara

Smith is atg. But his average since he came from ban in 2019( when bowling era started) is below 50 while root is above 50 whom is better smith or root
I just can't rate Root, not as a batsman nor as a slip catcher.

He may end up with the numbers, but he's just not.... At least not for me.

I rate viv ahead of tendulkar and lara
Ahead of Lara for sure.

Viv and Sachin are like the perfect ying and yang.

It is interesting to me how Root averages higher or equal against every opponent bar each other's teams and windies (and Root has played a better windies, with Dukes), perhaps Smith is not as dominant on this generation as people often presume.

But root has been far more consistent since 2018 which is when conditions became bowler Friendly. He might not have atg tours like smith in india 17 and england 19 but is far more consistent. Only thing he lacks is good series in Australia which impacts legacy of his whole career becuase you know how much importance english public give to ashes

One of reason i rate sachin/lara ahead of punter/kallis/dravid/sanga is that they averaged 50 in 90s which was rare given quality of bowling back then. Post war top 5 imo

Really? Root feels like someone who checks all the boxes for your rating personally, dominant when on top, very capable on tough wickets and has been the best Batsmen in the world by a country mile for quite some time now
