Don't personally think that it's certain that Brook will surpass Root. So if Root isn't an ATG, don't think Brook will be one either.
He probably won't, he has an extra gear and plays pace well but his home record isn't impressive yet and his play against spin is too suspect, Root is a wonderful player of spin and ridiculously competent against movement, plus he is 26, Root at 26 already had 5000 runs @ 53 I think with three Ashes tons, series defining knock in South Africa and all so he is already behind on draw.

Yeah he definitely belongs in that 4. Exactly where amongst them is the question
I did a calculation recently and got the 40+ averaging bowling attacks of 2000s and subtracted their records against those sides from their overall records, because such attacks don't exist anymore (bar Ireland and maybe Afghanistan, not too caught off), all of them bar Sangakkara fell below 50 as they really plundered the awful post-Walsh Windies, so I got Root leading that pack these days, had Kallis lead it some while back.

I probably would go Punter leading the pack with Root just behind for now. And then, Kallis, Dravid and Sanga.

Amongst the modern guys, these would probably be the ATGs for me:

ATGs-
Batsmen:
Sachin, Lara, Smith, Richards, Gavaskar, Ponting, Chappell, Border, Kallis, Waugh, Dravid, Root
Pacers:
Marshall, McGrath, Hadlee, Steyn, Imran, Ambrose, Akram, Lillee, Donald, Garner, Holding, Waqar, Walsh
Spinners:
Warne, Murali
All Rounders:
Botham, Pollock, Kapil
WK:
Gilchrist, Sangakkara

Root has an issue with Cummins and the extreme bounce in Australia because he has a technical deficiency against bounce where his backfoot game becomes useless and his front foot game becomes a little tricky, but he averages 40 in the games that involve Cummins with a ton and thirteen half tons, which is better and more consistent than the output a lot of ATGs like Sachin and Lara managed against their worst bowlers. He plays the other pacers wonderfully.

He does avg 26 against Cummins directly though

No shame in being Cummins’s bitch. Bloke is an ATG bowler or close to it at least. It would be very funny if Cummins gets him out close to 20 times though.

Not sure about Sanga as an ATG wk tbh. He makes it as a batsman alone anyways.
