Who is better test batsmen?
Williamson is very bad in away conditions but his home record is best since Bradman and his career average is way higher than Kohli.

I can't have Williamson over Kohli, with his record the way it is in SA, ENG, IND and SL. I just can't (not that it is brilliant in AUS either)

Kohli also has bad record in SL, yeah kane kane is bad everywhere outside home barring the highway of pak and bangladesh .

I think both have become under-rated on here for different reasons.
Kane away is such a weird story these days, particularly as it's so blatantly stats driven. The guy played half of his away games in his first 3 years of his career before he had turned 24. I doubt there is any other player in the upper echelons of batsman that have a record so skewed due to scheduling.

Kohli is on a ruthless mission to vindicate anyone who underrates him, Kane might shut his critics up in the Australia series.
Kohli's career has become under-rated because he's so crap right now and there's some natural recency bias there. I also think that right before his dramatic decline that his average undersold him a bit because his home pitches had become much more challenging than Williamson's and Smith's in particular.

Williamson's average flatters him a bit but he's underrated on here by dumb analysis by checklist merchants.

yeah people really underestimate Williamson's home domination which is a quality and wins his teams a lot of games at home, which is ultimately what matters.

Away avg in SENA+IND+SL:
Kohli: 42.23
Williamson: 31.67

Away avg in SENA+IND+SL since they turned 23:
Kohli: 42.23
Williamson: 34.79
Good cherrypicking. I like how you’ve included SL but excluded Bang and WI who have had good bowling attacks at home in recent years. You’ve also excluded their WTC final performances.

Kohli c 2014-2019 was a great batsman, and was just about as good as KW during this period (Kohli averaging 59 and averaging sub-40 only in England and Bangladesh, KW averaging 61 and averaging sub-40 only in SL and SA). 2020 onwards though it's a bit of a mismatch, even with KW's struggles away from home.

Firstly, picking the top 6 cricketing nations, and probably the tougher batting conditions is now cherry picking? Fine include WI as well, include the WTC finals as well. Here are the stats:
Kohli's avg: 42.04
Williamson: 34.68

Kohli wasn't about as good as KW from 14-19. He was much much better

Since turning 23, they’re about equal.

Kohli: 43.26
Williamson: 42.42.
