Cricketer Of The Year
England didn't get much luck today (a lot of Indian top edges evaded fielders), but they probably didn't deserve much for this team selection.

Next game I'd go Salt, Duckett, Buttler, Brook, Smith, Bethell, Livingstone, Carse, Archer, Rashid, Wood/Mahmood

But I guarantee they'll stick to the batting plan.

I will get in Rehan for Wood. If you are not going to play him on these pitches, why have him in squad...

Wouldn't be against that. It should be 3 seamers maximum, not 4. A reminder that Bethell can bowl off spin too.

Sam Curran is currently doing well with both bat and ball in ilt20. Generally does well in ipl too.. Somehow not translating that form for England.

Curran is a miles better batsman, and his left arm seam at least offers something different to the other right handers in the England squad.

It's one thing generally having players not quite as good as the opposition, but it would help if they'd at least pick their best team.

Livingstone should bat at seven in this side, and either Joverton or Curran should be at eight. LL and Bethell can bowl four overs between them easily. I wouldn't play Carse or Atkinson at all out of choice. Archer, Rashid and Mahmood as 9-11.

But Jamie Overton has been the standout batsman at 6/7 for English players for a number of years now.

He's been picked for that finisher role that so few are doing in the format for a while now.

All the best batsman now bat in the top 3 in T20 and then struggle at international level as you can't all bat them there so get shoehorned in at 4-7.

Smith bats at 4 in this format so sticking him to do a job he doesn't do in the format isn't a good idea.

Player of the tournament in a successful 2022 World T20 cup campaign, only 26 years of age currently, good lower order hitter, can give a left arm variation and been successful in this format across all leagues and internationals. Still doesn't find a place while the team continues to struggle.

I wouldn't mind if batting 7 meant innings finisher, but in this England side, it's more mid innings re-builder!!
