My point remains if a player is indisputably the 3rd best player of all time, does he not make any XI period?
I consider Imran the 5th greatest. So then what?

Forget about me, you honestly don't know how much this inconsistent position discredits you? You are creating an argument that by design you will apply to no other player lol. Usually you hide your bias better amidst page long posts and abstract reasoning.

Not necessarily. Gilchrist brings almost ATG level of batting and combines that with being a very safe keeper. So you can make an argument for him being a better cricketer than Viv.
Overrating his batting a tad but yeah as an overall cricketer he’s better.

Cas Gilly ain't close to ATG as a bat. And being a great keeper bat gets overrated as a cricketer based on the exclusivity of his position.

Viv was the premier bat of his era along with his other adds on with the ball, fielding, captaincy.

Any top tier bat or bowler should be rated ahead of Gilly IMO. Just far more difficult to get that high.

tbf, I did say "almost", he was certainly ATVG with the bat. Average wise (and probably skill wise) he is in the Matthew Hayden, Inzamam, ballpark, so not too shabby.
He is not even levels with those ATVGs frankly. He was fortunate to debut in his peak years and play entirely in the flat bat era.
