According to @h_hurricane's famous formula, Sobers' bowling average of 34 is equivalent to a batting average of 1200/34 ~ 35 which is comfortably higher than Hadlee's batting average. So Sobers.

Just curious.

It is often said Ponting, Kallis & Sanga played in a batting era but doesn’t that make Kallis’ bowling average better?

He did have South Africa as his home pitches, people give his batting points for having spicy home pitches so logically they should also penalize his bowling for having spicy home pitches

His home conditions were quite favourable to him and he averaged 36 away against top-eight teams.

I rate Kallis's batting higher than most based on the former though.

Yes. But there is one thing which seldomly people remembers. Bowling down the order is when the bowling becomes hard… not like batting down the order

Also when someone mentions Kallis avg 55 with the bat…barring his home conditions many say that he batted on the roads of 2000s… then the same applies to his bowling on the roads + lower the order

Not overrating his bowling. He is nothing more than mediocre…
