The team which had significantly higher success rate when they played with *checks notes* Roger Harper and 3 quicks. Also never went with 5 bowlers
If Australia with Gilchrist hardly ever went with 5 bowlers, no team should.

It's just a stupid strategy, plus having Sanga keep and bat at 3 is not a good idea.

Sanga kept AND exclusively batted at 3...... A better keeper than Pant, better batter than Rizwan while doing so early career (let alone overall career, as I believe none of us rates his batting avg as 65+ like Migara) and have the most experience keeping Murali. I would rather have Younis/Virat than Pant/Dhoni/Rizwan/Engineer

Ashes XI for me

1. Hobbs
2. Hutton
3. Bradman
4. Smith
5. Chappel
6. Hammond
7. Gilchrist
8. Warne
9. O Reilly
10. Barnes
11. McGrath

would back them to beat either due to the Bradman factor.

Wut. You have one pacer + Barnes and two spinners?

Rizwan is better keeper without any doubt but have my doubts whetever he can counter attack when team reqiures while pant is master at that
I won’t pretend Pant isn’t great at that but so is Rizwan.

Pak vs Ban 2024 Rizwan 171* off 239 - came in at 114/4, not a completely dire situation but impressive nonetheless

Pak vs SA 2021 Rizwan 115* off 204 - less counterattacking somewhat, Pakistan had a slim lead of 71 after the first innings and Rizwan came when their second innings was 63/4, Pakistan won by 95 runs

Pak in Aus 2024 Rizwan 88 off 104 - First innings of the match, he came in at 47/4.

Are some examples of his I can think of.

Rizwan is good but Pant's runs have been massively more impactful and in more tough conditions imo. Rizwan obviously a better keeper though so perfectly justifiable selecting him for the keeper-bat spot.
I think its quite important to consider both aspects of it. I was kinda joking about Rizwan being the better bat - but he is clearly a better keeper. That’s also a big factor when you’ve got Murali bowling - no offence to Pant but are we trusting him to keep to Murali?

Eng/Aus 11
1. Jack Hobbs
2. Len Hutton
3. Don Bradman
4. Ken Barrington
5. Steven Smith
6. Keith Miller
7. Adam Gilchrist
8. Shane Warne
9. Dennis Lillee
10. Glen McGrath
11. Sydney Barnes

This team will win against WI 11 or Asia 11.

Barrington & Smith are almost impossible to dismiss and when you add the Don easy win for them.

No.

I don't know when wicket keeping became an after thought.

Loved this discussion.

Warne
Barnes/Lindwall

Border or maybe Waugh too > Chappell in Ashes cricket tbh.

They're probably better overall too but that's a different conversation.
