Brian lara is a home bully -

In 90s era against top 3 teams -(sa,aus,pak)
He averaged only 35 away from home which is just like kane Williamson of this era.

For comparison -
In 90s against top 3 (sa,wi,pak)
Steve Waugh averaged 66 away from home.

Sachin averaged 44.12 against top 4 away.

Sachin's away included WI a team Lara obviously couldn't play against and Sachin never played away to Pakistan in the 90s. Against the same two teams (aus, sa) Sachin aveages 43 and Lara 39.7. Sachin slightly better, Waugh in a completely different stratosphere. Lara's away record though, admittedly, does not quite measure up to other greats.

Root's record away from home is exactly what guys like YK and Dravid are criticized for. He gets runs on the odd Ahmedabad/Multan type road before disappearing when the ball starts doing a bit. Especially overrated player of spin and still tonless in Australia. Why is he in this poll?

if we start doing this, most great batters won't have a decent away record. and this includes the Laras and the Kallises and all that jazz. Especially Lara who is guilty of this pretty much everywhere bar Sri Lanka and a couple innings in Australia in serieses where he averaged sub 35 anyway.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone say Root is better or as good as Smith or Lara. It's not as though this is a common occurrence.

I am pretty sure among every Dravid criticism, soft run is not one.
QUOTE="Narayana, post: 5398316, member: 56321"]

When drs was first introduced, sachin tendulkar who used to score hundreds after hundred for Fun against the toothless bowlers of srilanka , failed badly vs sl.

He only Averaged 15 across the 6 innings only managed to score around 80 runs.

And his actual average according to the bowling conditions turns out to be around 47.45.

earlier only McGrath , md Asif used to Ball so often in the area of uncertainty but nowadays almost all bowlers are bowling good length balls all the times.

Ajinkya rahane, Kohli, Smith, Latham , Williamson , elger all of them used to be too good while playing proper defensive test cricket.

Players like Rahul Dravid and Pujara used to get out early while playing defensive cricket probably due to the new balls

So What happened to all of these batsman all of sudden since 2020 ? T20 Was Always There Since 2007 ,

This decrease in batting average due to T20 effect Or are they more aggressive because they realise they can't survive in more difficult conditions so
have to attack more?

Lara or Smith, not really sure as Smith has burned me with his more recent years performance dip. Don't want to say anything too definitive, but both are a tier up on Root still, I'd say. Although Root is also class.
Can you explain on what basis Lara is considered a tier above root, Lara's prime came during 00 era , in 90s his away record against Top teams is like Kane Williamson.

Lara dominated and turned matches in a way that very, very few batsmen could dream of in the history of cricket. Root included.

Edit: Btw, I don't find Root to be a laughable comparison like most on this forum likely will. I just think Lara is better for the reason mentioned, and Smith is as well.
