Had a great tournament too. Played three games batting 7-8 and averaged 6 with the bat. Bowled six wicketless overs for 70.
Looked back through my posts and saw I was a bit confused by this one. Chamara Kapugedara was another one who was always constantly being recalled. Younger yes, but never did anything. And there was Thirimanne in tests.

No stronger argument for the "hundreds against Bangladesh don't fully count as proper Test hundreds" than the fact that Thirimanne averaged 90+ against them

Heath Streak managed to averaged 76 with the bat in 6 Tests.

Chanders 10 Tests for an average of 150.

Thirimanne was ok as opener in his final iteration. But yeah Kapugedara was a nonsensical choice

Kapugedera was terrible. He first came along at a time when I was following cricket very closely. Very young when first picked and wasn't very good, fair enough, but he kept hanging around and getting picked on and off and never got any better. Sri Lanka had a very strong batting line-up for a lot of that time as well. Was briefly even recalled as a medium pace bowling all rounder and was awful at that as well

Averaged 155 in Tests against Bangladesh though.

Smith cleared to join the squad in Dubai and will resume batting later this week

Hopefully he'll get sufficient prep necessary to score runs in Test cricket
