Because of slips.Lillee took 24.51% of his Wickets by dismissing the Openers and Wasim took 25.12% of his Wickets by dismissing the Openers. Lillee took 63.38% of his Wickets by Dismissing First 6 Batsmen and Wasim took 56.28% of his Wickets by Dismissing First 6 Batsmen. Conclusion : Wasim was Slightly better than Lillee in Removing the Openers but as the Middle Order came Lillee had clear upper hand over Wasim by 7% and Wasim was better than Lillee in removing the tailenders. I am a fan of Wasim Akram but we have to admit that Dennis Lillee was better than Wasim Akram as per this very important statistics.
Definitely it played a role as Australian fielders are better than Pakistani fielders and also Wasim was a swing bowler who could move the ball both ways so it could have been a bit difficult for the fielders to judge, compared to Lillee’s bowling. But the No 3 Batsmen is usually considered the Strongest player in a Team where Lillee wins over Wasim by a Large Margin.Because of slips.
It's far from a very important stat honestly..... So nah.Lillee took 24.51% of his Wickets by dismissing the Openers and Wasim took 25.12% of his Wickets by dismissing the Openers. Lillee took 63.38% of his Wickets by Dismissing First 6 Batsmen and Wasim took 56.28% of his Wickets by Dismissing First 6 Batsmen. Lillee’s Most Successful Victims were Openers, No 3 and No 4 so it’s a clear indicator that he was very good with the New Ball. It's far from a very important stat honestly..... So nah.
And not as good with the old. Also played almost exclusively in his home or England, and would rather like to forget whatever he did in SC.Lillee’s Most Successful Victims were Openers and No 3 so it’s a clear indicator that he was very good with the New Ball.
of course with the old ball Wasim is better as indicated by his better record against No 5 Batsmen compared to Lillee. There are many other unknown factors which can be addressed but clearly Lillee was more effective than Wasim in taking the Openers + Middle Order Combined. And not as good with the old. Also played almost exclusively in his home or England, and would rather like to forget whatever he did in SC.
Also, no 3s aren't necessarily the strongest always.
Cherry picking stats is meaningless imo as you can decide what you want them to say. I could say 47% of Lillee's wkts were top 4, while Akram's was only 39%. Doesn't mean anything, it's just the way it turned out.Lillee took 24.51% of his Wickets by dismissing the Openers and Wasim took 25.12% of his Wickets by dismissing the Openers. He was, in much more suitable conditions and with better support fielders, to still end up with a lower overall average......of course with the old ball Wasim is better as indicated by his better record against No 5 Batsmen compared to Lillee. You can’t calculate these Statistics and can make a comment which is easyCherry picking stats is meaningless imo as you can decide what you want them to say. I could say 47% of Lillee's wkts were top 4, while Akram's was only 39%. Doesn't mean anything, it's just the way it turned out.
I said Lillee was better than Wasim only from this Statistical Point of View but it doesn’t mean we can come to a clear conclusion about who was better as Wasim played in a more challenging era compared to Lillee and was also having an extra burden to play in ODI’s unlike Lillee, Playing on Subcontinent pitches is not easy.He was, in much more suitable conditions and with better support fielders, to still end up with a lower overall average......
How can I not calculate the stats you do, it's pretty simple and I just did it with Lillee's 47% top 4 wkts? Or was I supposed to go to two decimals like you and say 47.04%You can’t calculate these Statistics and can make a comment which is easy
You will use same statistics in some other threads to defend your point of view. HypocrisyHow can I not calculate the stats you do, it's pretty simple and I just did it with Lillee's 47% top 4 wkts? Or was I supposed to go to two decimals like you and say 47.04%
Show me where I've ever done that. I rate players by what I've seen and that's why I rate Lillee, Botham and Viv Richards so high, not what their overall career stats say.You will use same statistics in some other threads to defend your point of view. Hypocrisy
Stats don’t lie, don’t make statements like that hypocrisy means overrating your perception and undermining others intellectShow me where I've ever done that. I rate players by what I've seen and thats why I rate Lillee, Botham and Viv Richards so high, not what their overall career stats say.
As I said, the problem with stats is that you can manipulate them to make them say whatever message you wantStats don’t lie
Ok are you going to agree that Lillee is an ATG if he had a bowling average of 40. I already said in a previous comment that Stats doesn’t give a definitive conclusion but a partial inference. As I said, the problem with stats is that you can manipulate them to make them say whatever message you want
They don't show the full story either.Stats don’t lie.
