That's because, for whatever reason modern teams have gone with 4 front line bowlers plus a bowling rounder. Guess the 2000 was trying to match that trend. Me I'd go with:

If an all-rounder is needed (besides Kallis) put Pollock in for Warne. Pollock averaged 33 with the bat and just below 25 with the balls in the 2000s

Agree about Smith but who do you leave out between Sehwag and Hayden who were also immense. Sehwag on any batting favorable wicket is capable of destroying any type of bowler pace or spin. Smith is probably better vs pace especially pace on wickets with with any life in them. Hayden similar to Sehwag if a little less brutal. Any two of the three, imo would be fine.
