*Official* Sri Lanka in New Zealand, 2024–25 (ODIs / T20Is)

I was always a fan of Latham at his peak, in 2015 when he made very promising starts against Starc, Haze, Johnson and co I thought yep, once this guy works out how to play Test innings' he's going to be a jet. And he's played some great Test innings, and ODI ones. Myself, and others, rated him highly. But then it started to show through that he was a feaster on certain sides and couldn't make it count v better ones.

Now it looks like a guy who's always had the ability but not always could find a way to build substantial innings, is losing the ability and still doesn't play the substantial innings when he's in. So the run output is way down.

I honestly think he's cooked. I hope for his sake it goes the way of causing a career resurrections because I am regularly, actually mostly always, wrong, he's not dead and buried at 33. I definitely think we need to move on from him in ODIs right now, and Tests he probably gets 1-2 more series' and if it doesn't work out, he should go
I get that Latham is a frustrating player with his inability to convert starts but I can't see this happening. Especially given he's captain. In the tests against Australia, India (86 highest score in the match) and England (63 first innings) he got crucial half-centuries in games we won (the 73 against Australia when we were 90 runs behind on first innings was the second highest score and we would have won that test if Marsh had been caught).

I would have preferred Hay to continue in the ODI's although Latham's record in that format is very good. I was surprised to see he has 7 tons. He hasn't had many opportunities recently - missed the ODI tour to Sri Lanka. Didn't get to bat in the first ODI and was run out for 1 in the 2nd ODI.

They're perfectly fine to go on here. Just let people be.

Seriously, relax. This is starting to seriously get on my nerves re: you trying to whack tour threads on the head the moment the cricket finishes. It's not your job and it's really not required.
I’m just doing this because of consistency. I once created a thread highlighting the lack of action from mods…and the resolution from that was to tag the mods to do their actions. I’ll remove you from the tagging because the other mods have been more than cooperative.

Thank you for you input tho.

I don't know why it bothers you so much. I'd rather you PM them than tag them in the threads if you must do it as well.

They're doing their civic duty. If they don't tag the mod then the tide of other users who want this thread un-stickied will overwhelm the thread.

Latham has indeed scored 7 ODI hundreds.
2 vs Bangladesh
2 vs India
1 vs Zimbabwe
1 vs Ireland
1 vs The Netherlands

He has played 4 matches against The Netherlands for an aggregate of 224 runs at a very healthy average.

Thanks, the most impressive is probably the 145* off 104 balls against India. These are Latham's ODI scores since. He clearly enjoyed playing in Pakistan which is where the Champions Trophy is being co-hosted.Screenshot_20250112-173141_Chrome.jpg
