There is not much in life more useless than a short fine leg to pace at Eden Park.
Thing is though, it's really deep fine leg that's useless at Eden Park. The boundaries are so short anyway that if it flies 10m wide of the fielder it's 4 anyway, but having him there takes up one of your boundary riders. So you might as well have him inside the circle and put someone else out.

As just demonstrated by that six over fine leg. A top edge is basically always going to carry over the fielder here

Nah I disagree. There's value in having a man super fine to save the bountiful inside-edge fours and mop up when the ball goes into the corner. Short fine, on the other hand – was it last year when Ferguson was bowling heat and Sodhi was looking absolutely terrified at what really was a wide leg slip? He had a 50% shot of saving four if it went straight to him – but not a metre either side.
