Steyn had a 10 year stretch taking 5WPM. Think about that for a fast bowler. Ambrose wasn't taking 5WPM even in his shorter peak.

Even with bumps in the beginning and end, he is just giving more bang for the buck than Ambrose.

Lara can actually set the pace of games. Gavaskar cannot.

Yeah, as individuals I will opt for that pair. Just think Gavaskar being an opener is a boost as ATG openers are extremely rare (like the next best after big 4 is Boycott, that's a significant drop; while think say Steve Waugh/Ken Barrington is a much leaner drop), and Ambrose just a tad bit more consistent between games.

Ambrose didn't even have a 15 year career. So he doesn't even qualify for the basic criteria.
