Thanks for the detail.

Anderson Philip till end of July, so there is a T20 option as well as availability for the Chamapionship in June and July
Green is on a 2 year T20 deal 25 and 26 with availability for other games if available.

Thought Gohar was an overseas at Gloucestershire?
He's been released and signed on for Middlesex according to the below.

Which is where I imagine @chris.hinton has sourced and put info into an easier format to quickly scan down.

even if he's been released is he not still an overseas?
Apparently not, maybe a mistake by the ECB or he now qualifies on time spent in England?

@Third_Man

Perhaps he qualifies as a local player via the new rules we brought in to fast track Archer.

Looking at his last played games he's not wintered in Pakistan, so perhaps he's made the sacrifice since his test debut in Nov 2021 to focus on CC and is now a British Citizen?

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) - The Official Website of the ECB

The new ECB eligibility criteria for players, both men and women, from 1 January 2019, are:
  • a) British Citizenship and,
  • b) Either born in England/Wales, or three years residence (a total of 210 days/year April-March) and
  • c) Not played as a local player in professional international or domestic cricket in a Full Member country within the last three years

ECB are right I guess, I've just googled him apparently he now has Birtish citizenship:

"Gohar spent four seasons with Gloucestershire as an overseas signing, but has now received British citizenship. He last played for Pakistan in 2021"

Presumably it would be sometime until he is availabel for England!

Nah based off the above I think that's him now available for selection!

For comparison, the current ICC eligibility criteria for all players, is:

  • a) British citizenship; or
  • b) Born in England/Wales; or
  • c) Three years residence (on a rolling basis) and not having played for another Full Member country in the past 3 years
The previous ECB eligibility criteria for male players was:

  • a) British citizenship; and
  • b) Either born in England/Wales, or seven-year residence if moving from a Full Member country and arriving after 18th birthday, or four years if moving from an Associate Member County or arriving before 18th birthday (residence=210 day/year April-March); and
  • c) Not played as a local player in professional international or domestic cricket in a full member country within 4/7years

seems bizarre to me that he can be classed as local, but Cumbria weren't allowed to play a player who went to school in Carlisle, came through all the County's age group (u14s, u15s, u17s) then played Durham seconds and went to University in Oxford. But last year ( 2023) he went back to live in the county of his birth which neighbours Cumbria, is 30 miles from Carlisle but is Dumfries so he fell foul of b) and will do for the next three years at least.

Why should Cumbria and Northumberland not be allowed to select otherwise qualified players just because they live in the wrong neighbouring county? Not something that Southerners would have to worry about.

Blenkinsop

U19 Captain
Gutted that Northants have lost Jack White and Emilio Gay, and very far from convinced that Dom Leech makes up for it. But Lehmann as coach should be interesting.

I'm shocked but not surprised to hear that. I really don't understand that when Mark Wood is an example of the same thing but the best part of 20 years ago.

But then logic can't be found by the ECB when technically they and the ICC are going against the Good Friday agreement when players like Paul Stirling aren't allowed to play in English cricket even as British Citizens(even if I'm very much of the view of it being the North of Ireland and not British!)

This seems bizarre, has any legal challenge been made as far as you know?

I see that Emilio Gay actually moved to Durham for the last two CC games of last season which seems unusual. Looks like great a move for both parties surely? He will feel he had to move to Div 1 and get noticed a bit more

I'm surprised Mark Stoneman hasn't been picked up by somebody.
In his second last game for Middlesex made 115 v Derbyshire, they announced his release the day after this century.
I know he's 37, but he is still more than handy at the top of the order, unless of course he actually doesn't want to continue anywhere

Yeoman

U19 Captain
In a recent Telegraph article he was doing some coaching, including with Jamie Smith. He expressed a desire to play again next season but didn’t sound hugely optimistic about it.
