**Official** 4th Test at Melbourne, 26-30 Dec 2024

Out of interest, do they make publicly available the protocol for the decision making process?

Simon Taufel, a renowned former umpire from Australia, endorsed the decision.

"The third umpire did make the correct decision in the end. With the technology protocols, we do have a hierarchy of redundancy, and the umpire sees a clear deflection off the bat; there is no need to go any further and use any other form of technology to prove the case."

Best bowlers ever in Australia grounds only.

‘“Now, great people in the back have said after he took 4-10 within 17 balls in Sri Lanka in 2022 he was quoted as saying, ‘I had to put the digit on ice’,” Brayshaw said.
“So that was the celebration. He said ‘I just got him and I’m putting it back on ice’.”’

The scores in this match remind me of the 2011 MCG test against India, with each innings score being lower than the previous. However, while that was a good test to watch (as an Australian) this one had much more uncertainty and drama.

Based on the standards set from previous Australian and Indian teams. These are two sub standard sides, held up by 2 ATGs. Cummins and Bumrah.

Pat Cummins is the best modern day Australian Cricket Captain.
lol Australia has Smith, Head, Marnus, Starc, Lyon,Hazlewood, Boland, Khawaja etc all top quality players. They will be a substandard side in a couple of years time but you are out of your mind to make that implication now.

Not to mention that the performances from the Aust camp has so far been well distributed by all the players not just Cummins

It's time for the selfless captain to do the most selfless thing in his career and retire for good.
Then he will surely go down as the most selfless cricketer ever.

Nice one thanks. Based on the clip I've seen the umpire is making a visual judgement at the same time as the TV is showing snicko, so maybe the way this is done doesn't reflect this hierarchy. Would be a very brave umpire to not ask for snick at all though, not least because they would really expect it to endorse what they've seen anyway.

End of the day, this is a bit of a freakish situation so not a reason to upend everything, especially as the right decision was arrived at anyway.

Surely Hadlee makes it over Ambrose
yep okay i rechecked the stats - fast bowlers only. thanks.

1. Mcgrath
2. Bumrah
3. Cummins
4. Hadlee
5. Ambrose

the home bowlers top 2- obviously Mcgrath and Cummins now. These two are elite home bowlers, the rest of home bowlers are significantly behind IMO. I think 3rd best is Lillee and then Mcdermott/Hazlewood.

The visiting bowlers are Bumrah, Hadlee and Ambrose the top 3.

This seems fair.

Australia will run into problems in Tests once Cummins retires in a few years...generational talents, well they take a long time to emerge.

India will run into major strife once Bumrah retires in 4-5 years also.

Former Australia coach Darren Lehmann on ABC Radio: "That was one of the best Test matches I've ever seen live. It was amazing, and thank you very much to Rishabh Pant because that wicket off the part-timer was such a bonus.

... Hahaha!! Lehmann is such a snarky snide sarcastic prick isn't he ;) First lays the boot into Joe Root & now patronises Pant.

Cricket isn't just about talent; it's about GRIT AND RESILIENCE. Mentally weak players, no matter how technically good or prolific in domestic circuits, should have no place in the team. Look at Cummins, Lyon, or any Australian player—they embody what India has lacked for decades. We saw the fragility in the 2023 ODI WC final. Remember Zaheer Khan's wide first over in the 2003 World Cup final that set the tone with his visible fear and mental fragility. Mentally unfit cricketers who fail in crunch situations are the biggest bane of Indian cricket. That's why India loose major tournaments time and again.
It seemed like after that whole incident (03 WC), Indian players made an effort to get mentally more resilient. 03-04 in Aus was good. 07-08 Too. Then the Dhoni era, where he did a lot of things right re the Indian team's mentality- maybe some things wrong too. Kohli then defined an era of greater Indian toughness. Physicality, belief etc.

It seems recently, with Kohli and Rohit's fading, India is going back to the bad old days of 90s and early 2000s. Lazy, regal, lethargic and selfish mentality

Bro they just suck it's not that deep.

In fact this bunch has probably fought way harder than I thought and have punched above their weight. This series should be 3-0 to Australia right now.
