If one wants to pick an opening duo consisting of an old legend and modern legend, the easiest pick would be Jack Hobbs and Sunil Gavaskar.

Hutton and Gavaskar are a great combo.

Two batsmen known for their legendary powers of concentration and can take the sheen of the new ball.
And allow the bowlers to settle into their lines, maintain fields and keep the run rate low.

Need someone at the top who can shift the pressure to the fielding team and responsibly push the scoring rate.

Look at all 3 of the most successful teams of the past 50 years, they all had at least one guy who could accelerate the innings, shift the pressure back to the bowling team.

Just curious.

Who is that third most successful team in last 50 years? WI is one and Aus team is the other.

Yeah Hutton/Gavaskar is too slow, Hobbs was capable of fast scoring, so Hobbs/Hutton it is.

Picking the suitable team???? If I only go by average, shouldn't I pick Adam Voges??
If he wants these 4 batsmen to play, they all can bat anywhere between 3-6 and there will be not much difference in quality.
But if he really care about avg @ specific batting positions Viv, Sobers, Sachin, Don is the order to go.
