Sobers for now. Unless Smith drastically turns things around.

Which is obviously not gonna happen.Sobers for now. Unless Smith drastically turns things around.
First half of his career, especially at home was comatose dead. Like 30's level dead pitches. Even when you compare his career in stages to someone like Punter, it's eerily similar. What does Smith have to do?
He had a better peak.
He played majority of matches against better teams.
He was/is great against everyone and in in every place.
He has almost zero weakness and had perfect record.
I think Smith can comeback to his previous form.@Fanboy375 reasoning?
He has a pretty good chance of retiring before that happens.I think Smith can comeback to his previous form.
Thats possible. I am not sure.Maybe it has to do with 3 formats being played.
Regardless of peer rating or his “ugly” style Steven Smith is hands down the best Test player of his era.
Was thinking about Younis Khan's peer rating. Isn't that fairly low for someone with his record? Often (almost always, actually) see him rated below Inzy.I am starting to downgrade Smith myself because I am realising his peer rating isn't unanimous at all. In fact, he isn't even a clear no.2 of the Fab Four when it comes to peer rating. It has really dropped.
Of course it might change when he announces retirement.

Hope he gets rated higher in the future (if it's possible)Younis unfortunately was in an era with a deluge of 50 average batters and got lost
I disagree. I don't see why Smith can't have a second wind to his career the same way a Lara did. OK fine, wickets were flatter when Lara did but there aren't that many really threatening attacks outside his own, India in India and South Africa at home.Which is obviously not gonna happen.
Relying on peer rating when you've actually closely watched and followed someone's career at the time is particularly silly.I am starting to downgrade Smith myself because I am realising his peer rating isn't unanimous at all. Yeah, this.Younis unfortunately was in an era with a deluge of 50 average batters and got lost
