Yeah definitely.

Don Bradman
Sachin Tendulkar
Jack Hobbs
Viv Richards
Garfield Sobers
Brian Lara
Len Hutton
Sunil Gavaskar
Wally Hammond
Steve Smith
Honourable Mention:- George Headley
(Obviously, putting aside Grace)
This is such a weird thread to be doing top ten batting lists but as long as it's not Warne vs Murali I'm now compelled 😉

Tests only:

Bradman
Tendulkar
Hobbs
Hammond
Sobers
Kallis
Hutton
Lara
Suttcliffe
Gavaskar

yeah, the only thing Waqar really has over Bumrah right now is a larger body of work. Pace and swing are meaningless if they don't translate into some sort of tangible result like economy, wickets, etc.

If Bumrah retired tomorrow and I was offered as a captain of a random side for the next generation what Waqar was gonna offer vs Bumrah being a tiny bit of a late bloomer, having an awesome but injury-plagued peak and then retiring early I'd still take Waqar, and that's how I kind of analyse these things. But Bumrah is very fast closing the gap. I'd be really surprised if I didn't rate him in the top tier when he retired now.

Go too far one way and Walsh and Anderson are the greatest bowlers of all time. Go too far the other way and we're literally just talking about the best ball Ashley Giles ever bowled as one of the great peaks of skill.

Now post your 11-20 (if you have one)
I think after ten you do get me subconsciously factoring in stuff outside Tests. I mark Chappell and Viv up, Barrington down, give Headley a mild longevity pass etc.

And that's even when I'm telling myself not to, lol.

But I'll have a crack anyway because there's nothing better at do at 4:24am at the Pyrmont Bridge Hotel after my mates have left. Subject to change.

11. Chappell
12. Headley
13. Sanga
14. Border
15. Nourse
16. Mitchell
17. Richards
18. Dravid
19. Compton
20. Miandad

I like Barrington, Harvey, May, Waugh and Ponting in this range too. Haven't considered people still playing yet.

I think you’ve messed up somewhere with this since Barrington was playing in 1959 at the age of 28. This lists it as starting in 1960.

Barrington had a late start to his career. He played 2 Tests in 1955 and then played his next match in 1959 when he was 29 years old. I would say if he did not miss his prime years, he would have had an ever better record and remembered more fondly.
Pretty sure he was more of a stroke player originally (don’t know if that ends up translating to actually more aggressive or just prettier to watch, like say Compton). iirc after being dropped he went back and reworked his technique to eliminate danger and maximise scoring, which whilst clearly successful, didn’t gain many fans. He wasn’t that great in the intervening period (56-58) in FC. He had an excellent season in 1959 which was what lead to him being picked once more.
