certainly not better statsWaqar had the pace tho. Plus a better Yorker as well. Better runup, better action, better stats.
If Bumrah retired tomorrow and I was offered as a captain of a random side for the next generation what Waqar was gonna offer vs Bumrah being a tiny bit of a late bloomer, having an awesome but injury-plagued peak and then retiring early I'd still take Waqar, and that's how I kind of analyse these things. But Bumrah is very fast closing the gap. I'd be really surprised if I didn't rate him in the top tier when he retired now.yeah, the only thing Waqar really has over Bumrah right now is a larger body of work. Pace and swing are meaningless if they don't translate into some sort of tangible result like economy, wickets, etc.
I think after ten you do get me subconsciously factoring in stuff outside Tests. I mark Chappell and Viv up, Barrington down, give Headley a mild longevity pass etc.Now post your 11-20 (if you have one)
I think you’ve messed up somewhere with this since Barrington was playing in 1959 at the age of 28. This lists it as starting in 1960.Highest average after turning 25(5000+ runs)

Pretty sure he was more of a stroke player originally (don’t know if that ends up translating to actually more aggressive or just prettier to watch, like say Compton). iirc after being dropped he went back and reworked his technique to eliminate danger and maximise scoring, which whilst clearly successful, didn’t gain many fans. He wasn’t that great in the intervening period (56-58) in FC. He had an excellent season in 1959 which was what lead to him being picked once more.Barrington had a late start to his career. He played 2 Tests in 1955 and then played his next match in 1959 when he was 29 years old. I would say if he did not miss his prime years, he would have had an ever better record and remembered more fondly.
TBH his entire first class record has been surprisingly poor considering his extraordinary test career. He wasn’t that great in the intervening period (56-58) in FC.
Now post highest averages after turning 23 with same minimum runsMy bad. It was most runs after 29 years.

My point was regarding Ken Barrington being very unlucky - Barely played in his 20s and his career was cut short by him getting a heart attackNow post highest averages after turning 23 with same minimum runs
If we're talking about Waqar.I would also say no. People who saw more of Waqar than me may disagree though.
