I think I can still confidently say O’Reilly for now. I’d have O’Reilly as a top 10 bowler imo and Bumrah is not that.

Played in one of the toughest eras for bowling, played 70% of his matches against his toughest opponent and faced a frankly ridiculous list of names.

Hammond (19 matches!)
Sutcliffe
Hutton
Nourse
Compton
Mitchell
Paynter
Hendren
Leyland

In fact he was able to dismiss all of them at least twice (except Bruce Mitchell, once) despite having played in as few as 3 matches with some.

I truly believe without WWII Tiger would had been a prime candidate for GOAT, and even more strongly believe he would be ahead of Warne and Murali. The latter because, while Warne and Murali are exceptionally good as spinners, they still struggled relatively against the Best players of spin (Lara, Tendulkar, Sehwag, Laxman, etc). Tiger, on the otherhand, is the only spinner to be able to have the Wool over his greatest opponents and not get dominated.

Bumrah is the best since Steyn, so this is a close comparison. If Bumrah can get India to the WTC final and a win over SA, I might give it to him. Otherwise, wait a few years and then check again.

As of now it's still O'Reilly.

He's still an elite ATG and in my re- evaluations I have him just about top 10 as a bowler.

Bumrah isn't quite top 10 as yet.

Bill O Reilly played in the 1930s
19 out of 27 matches against England
21 out of 27 matches in two countries(Eng & Aus)

I am picking the best fast bowler of this generation over the spin legend who played 90 years back.

England have never been good against quality spinners. I do not think the majority of wickets against those batsmen is such a big deal. Even our Ghulam Ahmed and Vinod Mankad have great records against the English and I don’t consider both great.

Vinoo Mankad took 54 wickets in 11 Tests against England at an average of 23. He played against Wally Hammond, Len Hutton, Peter May, Dennis Compton etc

don't know if this is meant to be a joke or not. the guy who played spin on uncovered wickets in a rainy nation and performed aren't good against spin...?

Mankad's average against England comes from bullying a England C batting lineup in a home series in 1951, he avwrages 34 in England, not to mention 30s was way flatter than 50s which is the toughest era for batting bar windies.
