Two ATGs with under 200 wickets
I truly believe without WWII Tiger would had been a prime candidate for GOAT, and even more strongly believe he would be ahead of Warne and Murali. The latter because, while Warne and Murali are exceptionally good as spinners, they still struggled relatively against the Best players of spin (Lara, Tendulkar, Sehwag, Laxman, etc). Tiger, on the otherhand, is the only spinner to be able to have the Wool over his greatest opponents and not get dominated.I think I can still confidently say O’Reilly for now. I’d have O’Reilly as a top 10 bowler imo and Bumrah is not that.
Played in one of the toughest eras for bowling, played 70% of his matches against his toughest opponent and faced a frankly ridiculous list of names.
Hammond (19 matches!)
Sutcliffe
Hutton
Nourse
Compton
Mitchell
Paynter
Hendren
Leyland
In fact he was able to dismiss all of them at least twice (except Bruce Mitchell, once) despite having played in as few as 3 matches with some.
You'd go for Lohmann over both? This is close but you have to go with the bowler average 19.50
So, it's Bumrah. In the games that matter
Bumrah: 5 matches, 9 wickets @ 45.44
0'Reilly: 1 match, 8 wickets @ 4.12
That’s a pretty big differenceIn the games that matter
Bumrah: 5 matches, 9 wickets @ 45.44
0'Reilly: 1 match, 8 wickets @ 4.12
I don’t vote her prehistoric cricketersYou'd go for Lohmann over both?
Guess I should have known, but where does he rank in your list as of now?Bumrah isn't quite top 10 as yet.
Off the top of my head 18th.Guess I should have known, but where does he rank in your list as of now?
don't know if this is meant to be a joke or not. the guy who played spin on uncovered wickets in a rainy nation and performed aren't good against spin...?England have never been good against quality spinners. I do not think the majority of wickets against those batsmen is such a big deal. Even our Ghulam Ahmed and Vinod Mankad have great records against the English and I don’t consider both great.
Vinoo Mankad took 54 wickets in 11 Tests against England at an average of 23. He played against Wally Hammond, Len Hutton, Peter May, Dennis Compton etc
