Will Kane Williamson get to 10,000 test runs?

Even that Bangladesh Test series isn't until after the World Cup, and nearly eight months away, so maybe he's still a chance of making it.
I've seen rugby players come back from ACL injuries as quick as 4-5 months... It's usually a 6 month standard off the field type injury but if the athlete has a bit of luck & applies himself in recovery sessions, then yes it is possible. As for the World Cup I'd make him 50/50.. his knee might heal in time but the fitness issue & form might be enough to keep him out.I would not be surprised at all if he was 'rested' in the group stages and called upon in the knockout games if required & fit & ready.

'Nearly 8 months away' for the Bangladesh series should more than enough for Kane to make it back in time (providing there are no more complications from the injury)

Bump - probably needs 15 more tests as he’s now hitting around 100 runs a test on average.

Should do that in the next year and a bit (if Weenink can find us a second test opponent next summer - currently we only have England for 3 tests, then SL and PAK for some white ball stuff).

Next test series for NZ

Aus (2 at home)
Afg (1 off away)
SL (2 away)
IND (3 away)
ENG (3 at home)
ZIM (2 away)
WI (2 at home)

Actually those next two home summers look rank - 3 tests then 2 tests…?

Where’s the test against Afghanistan being played? So tempting to go to Zimbabwe to watch that 2 Test series there.

Bump. Amidst the odd person wondering if he’s done already as far as test cricket is concerned.

9276. 724 to go.

Upcoming tests for NZ…

ZIM - 2 tests
TBC - 2 tests (really looks like the only options are West Indies and Ireland - everyone else the window is too small)
WI - 3 tests
IRE - 1 test
ENG - 3 tests
IND - 2 tests (Oct 2026)
AUS - 4 tests (Nov/Dec/Jan 26/27)
SL - 2 tests (Feb 27)

I wonder if he can hang in till the SL series? He’ll be 36, and surely with a bit of managing he should be okay for that.

So a maximum of 19 tests there. He averages around 88 runs a test match, so if he COULD play all 19 and keep that up… he’ll end up with another 1672. Career total would be 10,948. But I’m concerned due to availability and injury he’s going to miss some.

Anyways, still backing him. I’m guessing at this point he’ll finish above Kohli, but probably below Smith.

That would put him 13th above Steve Waugh. Nice.

More impressive is that he could hit the top 5 most centuries. Only SRT, Kallis, and Ponting have over 40. Root will get more than 40. Sanga has 38. So that’s possible as well.

Hoping he can go the 2 and a bit years at least before pulling the plug.
If he can do that he might just be able to pass 11k runs including sneaking past Australians S.Waugh and TOTAB who has just under 11,200.

Are they home or away series? That’s a bit important.

They've confirmed they're in discussions with South Africa.
Really don't see how this works with the schedule, SA is due to send a T20 team to Australia a week after NZ's test series with Zim ends. That said, none of the dates have been confirmed yet so it's possible they can shuffle the games around to make it work.

Might be why they're leaving June open (I don't remember whether this was implicitly or explicitly stated)? Even though it's ****ing June. Have to say, Australia playing home games in August when they're free to play them in September is strange.

SA are looking highly likely to make the WTC final from June 11-15 (or 16 if lots of rain), so that might be an issue too
