Consecutive Year of Birth Test Draft:

Been a long time between drafts for me but it is that time of year.

Hopefully this exact concept hasn't been done already.

Ideally requiring 10-11 drafters.

Concept/Rules:

Drafters need to end up with a consecutive 11 year period e.g 1980-1990 (inclusive) & will need to select 11 players born in every year of their said 11 year period. This can be in any order you decide, eg. In the above example your first pick might be one born in 1988 & your 2nd 1984.

Following selection of each player and to keep it dynamic, a drafter does not have to confirm their exact consecutive 11 year period at the start or throughout the draft as long as it ultimately ends up 11 consecutive years. eg, If your 1st pick was born 1980, then at that point in time you're open to an 11 year period as early as 1970- 1980 or as late as 1980-1990 or any 11 year stretch in between.

While it's generally good to get first pick in drafts, it could actually be an advantage going later in the first round since you will know a little about the time period of others already & hence might choose to pick a period with less competition, so there'll be an element of both luck & tactics.

There is no problem if drafters cross over the same years in their chosen periods, or even end up the exact same 11 year period as someone else, although that would mean stiffer competition.

Other rules:

1) Your Wicket Keeper needs to have played at least 50% of their games as a designated wicket-keeper

2) The order for Round 1 will be randomised, and reversed for Round 2, randomised for round 3, & then rinse and repeat.

3) 10 hours maximum time period to select your player. If you miss 3 consecutive Rounds then it will be assumed that you have quit the game and cannot re-join. Feel free to PM a fellow Drafter to post your pick for you if you think that you won't be around

4) Bradman can be selected since it will limit a drafter to an early 11 year time-period

5) Your selections have to had played a minimum of 10 Test matches

6) The usual top 3 vote off will happen at the end...

Let us know if you're keen.

Okay, tell me a thing; if not a single year of our 11 year slot overlaps, can't we just pick all 11 of our players together after the last drafter has announced their slot??

I suspect that will be unlikely if we have 10-11 drafters, but yes if you know ahead of time that no one else shares a year/ or years with you then I guess you could pick at once, although it would probably take a bit of the fun & suspense out of it.

Can we not release the 11 year period at the start itself? For example, we choose a player born in 1980 and then second pick as 1976. Then for the third pick, we decide whether to pick from 1972 or 1984 based on other picks, instead of revealing our 11 year period at the start itself.

This is a smart idea

Yeah, I was thinking about that to allow more flexibility, and am open to it if most others are on board.

This is now confirmed & incorporated in the rules.
