I think it's just easier for them mentally. Dropping Khawaja or Marsh ends their career while McSweeney will likely be on the tour to Sri Lanka next month. Selectors can't make those tough calls

Personally wouldn’t have dropped McSweeney but he can’t have too many complaints as he didn’t score enough runs
However, the continued selection of Marsh is a
mystery as there’s very little justification for it
Konstas is good enough but as others have said, it would be preferable to have eased him in down the order
A few rumours that Inglis will open which is a Hail Mary as well

3. Labuschagne
4. McSweeney
5. Head
6. Smith
7. Carey
Smith opened the door by batting 6 last test and Cummins said most runs worldwide come from 5-7 now days, so why not put your best bat there
Also Green slots back into #4 when fit so leaves Labuschagne and McSweeney to have a clean fight for #3 instead of adding Smith to the equation

There is zero logic to any of the changes being made. Apart from Boland in for Hazlewood because he is injured. Although, on current form, it wouldn't surprise me if the selectors decided to drop Marsh as a batsman and then bring him in instead of Boland to replace Hazlewood.

Inglis opening would be peak #intent, as is getting the young bloke in when they’ve got India on the run. The tourists have barely fired a shot in anger since Perth and only rain has saved them from a hiding this past week. Aus selectors justifiably flexing hard by picking a foetus and otherwise letting the has beens have a last hurrah.

Why drop McSweeney? He looked like a good opener in Perth. Don't want to create insecurity by dropping young batsmen after a couple of bad games.
