I think Greig's brief Test career painted his batting in a much better light than it would have been if he had a longer career.

He was more of a Botham-like batsman where he played most of his cricket, but in Tests he seemed something above that.
I do find Greig a fascinating character and good cricketer but he was one of those who looked a bit exposed by WSC. Small sample sizes I know but a brutal cricketing environment.

Ok. You think that is really an issue for Fred tho? I know Statham failed but everyone else put incredible numbers against them. Davidson, Benaud etc. Fred not playing in Asia, imho isn’t an issue at all for his time. I would think.
Benaud was a spinner and Davidson really is the only top class pacer I can think from that generation to do great in India. Freddie's issue has more to do with his overall away numbers; just aren't significant enough overall. Kinda good in both Australia and WI, but pretty much that sums it up.

Hall put up incredible numbers in India and Pakistan too.

I mean, you can’t predict whether a bowler will do well in a specific country like that. Even top players (both batsmen and bowlers) can have quite poor records against teams/in countries where you would expect them to succeed.

I get the impression he'd taken his eye off the ball by then, and commercial intersts had, to some extent, taken their toll. He wasn't great in the Ashes series that immediately preceded WSC either. Obviously he was facing some absolutely stellar attacks in WSC, but he had previously played some fine innings against great bowlers.

Yes, all fair. A ton against Lillie and Thomson in Brisbane and another against Holding, Roberts, Holder and Daniel at Leeds are not to be sniffed at are they? Obviously he loved going to India and old style India wickets really helped his style of spin.
