Waqar was something of a one-trick pony. Admittedly was a great and ***y trick. But Bumrah has now almost reached the stage at which Waqar's career took the most dramatic downturn imaginable from a once nailed-on ATG. Might happen to Bumrah too, but in their respective meteoric early careers, I feel Bumrah's demonstrated the greater nous in terms of working ppl out as opposed to just blasting through them.

The point at which he is right now i.e. 194 wickets, Bumrah actually has a better average than Waqar. 179 wickets at 27.93 is what Waqar has over Bumrah.

Bumrah has faced stronger opponents on an average too, hence went with him, though it is only a marginal decision.

About a year back, I went with Waqar. But couldn't have imagined such a massive year for Bumrah.

He has had an incredible year.

62 @ 14.58

Only 3 players have taken more than 50 wickets in a calendar year at an average of under 15.

1982 Imran 62 @ 13.29
2024 Bumrah 62 @ 14.58
1912 Barnes 61 @ 14.14

Also of note he has taken them with a SR of 29.38. Only Waqar in 93 comes close (55 @ 15.23, SR 29.56 - also the next closest average to those 3 unsurprisingly). Nobody else has one below 35.

Actually think Bumrah has a legit argument now. Waqar's greatness is based almost entirely on his obscene pre 95 peak and Bumrahs peak is approaching top tier status. This year in particular has been incredible.
