While some if that is true, all I will say is what if Sanga had to play half his matches in SA instead of flat ass SL pitches that gave pacers nothing.
Sanga averages a few points less obviously because SL helped him batting wise but he already averages more than Kallis, so we know this stuff. The guy loved pace and bounce, personally I think he would have preserved over an entire career.

But don't inflate Kallis' home average achievement. It's obviously to his favor but look at Aus.

From 8 matches in SA he averaged 35.

Sure. He was below par there in short tours, like Kallis in England (though Kallis played 15 tests).

You are asking how he would do over half a career as a home bat, obviously he adapts and succeeds. It's such a silly question to ask based such a limited touring sample on.

Reminder all it takes is one mega tour. Sachin averages the same as Sanga before his final tour in SA.

That last point doesn't help the argument. But that's a discussion for another day

Sanga and Kallis should be a step ahead of Punter, as having much more responsibility and less support as leaders of their batting lineups, although Ponting was certainly a force at his peak.

Between Sangs and Kallis I think Sanga was just that more prolific. One of the tip top batting ATGs I've ever seen, so I take him at the top.

Lol, suddenly remembered when discussing Sehwag and Graeme Smith kyear said 'sure Sehwag has a better home record, but how he would had fared opening in SA vs Australia'. 25, Graeme Smith literally averaged 25 in SA vs Australia.......

We all talk about Smiths home record as a weakness.

Graeme Smith to me is the most overrated of the 2000s big 3 openers on CW. It's just down to a superficial breakdown of his stats, and unfairly knocking home performance of Hayden and Sehwag.

Meh in RSA, meh in Australia, meh in India, played in the easiest era with ridiculous support down under, outside of NZ/Eng he was just a whatever batsmen. The bowling equivalent of Mitchell Johnson but is rated as an ATVG.
You could say similar things about Hayden and Sehwag I have all 3 at similar levels but Smith slightly ahead. I don’t personally think there’s much of a gap between those 3 and Greenidge.

I got Hayden and Smith as equals, Greenidge as their better and Sehwag as their inferior basically

Smith was really good in Australia overall imo. Made a ton of runs in the first two tests in 08 to win the series and then had that heroic failed effort to save the game in the third with a broken hand (Was MotS too IIRC). Played a couple of great knocks in the 2012 tour too... the ton in Adelaide was good but I really loved his rapid 80 odd in Perth in that partnership with Amla that absolutely killed the match dead after Australia had been bowled out cheaply. Some very decisive performances in big results which is way more important in such things for me than some random average.

His home record is pretty ass though, yes. He's better than Sehwag and Hayden but really not by much.

None of the 3 were lone warriors, Sanga had Mahela and a decent supporting cast and Kallis had a pretty strong lineup over the 2nd half of his career.

And re the highlighted bit? Don't think that's quite accurate.

All 3 of them have their weaknesses though. Sehwag was useless in any conditions that gave the slightest hint of swing or help to the new ball and Hayden was not effective vs elite bowlers or until the pitches flattened out.
