I mean, he played his whole international career in his absolute peak. As I said, he sucked in SA as well (and FTR he was a Saffa, no reason to defend him here).
I think he was just one of those cases who was far superior in tests than he was in FC IE Barrington style, he won more test matches for England than he probably won FC matches for his sides

don't really know why this means much tbh, 60 tests from 70s quite a lot.
England played really a lot of games even back then tbf, 5 year career coupled with the rest of FC record really doesn't let me rate him really high. Mushtaq Mohammad better.

Swann gets underrated a bit though tbf he deserves it for retiring mid ashes.
He has some immense performances and was an integral part of a team that went to no1 in the rankings but too short a career and it doesn't help that spinners tend to peak late. I think he was ready years before but he rubbed authorities up the wrong way and England have a history of not being overly flexible with that type of character.

Gough is a bit underrated I think. Good away record in a poor side. Shrewsbury's record in low scoring games stands up to Trumper's and Hill's and he doesn't have the same hype so I'd suggest him too. Cowdrey wasn't underrated at the time but perhaps is a bit now. He has a lot going for him and a somewhat modest average by top drawer standards can be explained to some extent by a few variables.

Trott is maybe a name from recent times, pretty decent number three imo, short career but nobody can beat mental health, kinda tragic how him and Tresco fell to the same thing.

Trott's good work is condensed into far too small a period and he had real issues v pace and bounce. I would say Stewart but I think his story is well documented. Trescothick was good. But again, short career.

Greig>Jadeja and Woakes
I think Greig's brief Test career painted his batting in a much better light than it would have been if he had a longer career.

He was more of a Botham-like batsman where he played most of his cricket, but in Tests he seemed something above that.

I would say Frank Foster and AG Steel are pretty underrated now, probably Tom Richardson too, was rated really highly.
Overrated imo. Well behind the guys like Spofforth, Turner, Lohmann imo, though to hear him described by people you’d think he was a god. Bloke had a short peak and got fat. Botham prototype without the batting.

Probably because he didn’t play in many non low scoring games lol. Pathetic 34 SR also so he sucks.
