Good to see that Santner has been named full-time white ball captain. Logical decision.

I do like Chapman, but that's rough on Young given ODIs is arguably his strongest of the 3 forms (averaging 46 with a SR of 88) & based on the above logically he opens & KW bats his normal no. 3 spot.

Also, did I miss something about Conway being unavailable? I know he's hasn't got a central contract but neither does Ferguson. And Boult for that matter (did I miss his official retirement from internationals) , considering those non-contracted players are still available for big tournaments.

I thought Lockie went casual like Kane & Conway. He'll be alright. He'll probably be in the CT squad & play the Tri Series to get back in the ODI groove.

I think Boult's de facto finished, if not officially. I noticed this with the focus on opening bowlers in SL. They are clearly looking for someone to play sidekick to Henry in the CT. Between that & the Southee retirement not mentioning ODIs, they're running auditions against Sri Lanka.

Must be second best seamer. Statsguru says Vettori's year of captain/coach/player in 2008 was second most prolific. With Henry 3rd. (after Hadlee 1985, of course .... )

Yeah, Boult's done. He's already officially retired from T20's, and confirmed in a podcast or an interview recently that he has no intentions of playing for NZ again.

Could say Southee had the 5th worst year ever for an NZ opening bowler (seamer) in their 94 year history. Out of the 115 times a seamer has opened the bowling at least 6 times in a calendar year.

Henry 10th best
Southee 110th best (out of 115)

Southee's 2012 sticks out to me. It includes his first innings bowling v SA at Dunedin but not the second when he took 0-100. Why would that be?

Let's say he plays those 2 games and takes 5 each match as per his 2024 wpm...he would still be 2nd to Hadlee, though Henrys sr far superior.

Shows how little competition Hadlee had.

Henry was always going to be a world class opening bowler. He just needed to be given that role, which to be fair was sewn up by Boult and Southee at their peaks. And he didn't always work hard enough in the situation he found himself in before that career-turning Test v SA at Hagley in 2022. Has been ridiculously consistent since then.

Averages a tick over 24 as an opening bowler, almost 70 when not taking the new ball.
