we needed the spinner to do a holding role and jaddu failed spectacularly at his job

ashwin was the right choice for this game

400/7 after sending the opposition in isn't good enough.

Top effort from Bumrah though, as usual. If the game looks like it's heading for a draw due to rain, they obviously shouldn't bowl him again this test.
From what I have seen Bumrah just looked to bowl. He bowls a lot of overs whenever he is on the park

Well, I watched us bowl for the first 3 hours today and then headed out. Great to come back to that scorecard, lol.

Genuinely feel for Akashdeep as inspite of the outside off and short of length stuff, he genuinely could have and probably would on other days get a 3fer at least for how well he bowled.

I think it was a combination of a great batsman rediscovering his form slowly as he went through his innings, a batsman in great form at the peak of his powers, a pretty good deck to bat on, a pretty old and soft ball in the 2nd session, and some unimaginative captaincy.

I am not sure about Rohit the batsman but I am definitely thinking Rohit the captain is now actively holding this team back. He was just shockingly poor today following the ball and no real set plans for most of the batsmen apart from "lets get Bumrah and Akash to bowl at them".

Obviously, the only reason Jadeja gets picked overseas before Ash is the fact that he is a far better batsman. But there is also the way he bowls which can be monotonous or metronomic (depending on your half-full/half-empty tilt) but the best part is if you give him a plan and ask him to stick to it, he would, all the live long day. The bowling into Head's pads was a fine plan. IT will tuck him up, the odd ball would go straight on and get the edge, Head hardly ever comes on the front foot, the lofted shots are tougher off that length and its hard to come down the track to Jaddu bowling at that pace. And yet, he kept moving fielders around off forcing Jaddu to bowl the wider lines. Just not good enough.

Australia obviously sitting pretty and its a competition between our batting and the rain to see who sucks more. :(
Yeah I was very unimpressed by Jadeja's bowling but I think he got jerked around badly by Rohit today. It was genuinely difficult to tell at times what line Rohit actually wanted him to bowl based on the field (catching men both sides of the wicket, sweepers in odd places etc), and it didn't help that the apparent plan, whatever it was, seemed to change literally every over rather than just deciding on a plan and actually sticking to it for half an hour or more.

To be honest Rohit just seems a very emotionally driven captain; he (over)reacts to the last thing that happened in the game. If a batsman plays a great shot in a particular area, especially more than once, then he'll look to plug that gap and will reformulate the entire plan to negate that shot (which is how, quite bizarrely, we spent like a half hour to an hour of play with no ring fielders on the offside to Travis Head... somehow). Never mind if those shots happened to bad balls that weren't part of the previous plan anyway.

Hold on hold on hold on: Isa Guha said what?
Ngl she would have been the absolute last person on my bingo card of "comms embroiled in a racist joke scandal this summer". To the point where I really think she was just making an awful joke and had zero clue of what she was actually saying.

fully expect us to get rolled cheaply because aus will bowl better and fuller lengths making our players nick off frequently

we suck and deserve to lose 4-1

hope it means rohit's captaincy stint is over

pathetic tactics

Think it was just a really lazy and idiotic attempt at trying to say something funny. Will be extremely surprised and disappointed if it turned out to be anything more.

Just looked the incident up and I am pretty speechless on what even she was getting at??? I mean, what even she thought it will accomplish? What even was supposed to be the punchline?? I don't think it's racist (I hardly call things racist if they can be described otherwise), but I also don't get what really it was......

I think she was attempting something from the standpoint of all of us evolved from monkeys and just messed up. Probably sounded funny in her head for some reason.

Perfect summation. Best filed under 'seemed like a good idea at the time'. Been there many times, it's just that I wasn't ever allowed anywhere near international live broadcasting

This is how Usman Khawaja compares to other past Australian Test Opening batsman and their final 20 innings of their careers. Its a small sample size. Usman will continue on for the rest of this series at least but it's interesting where he sits in terms of past opening batsman for Australia and the tail-end of their careers.

Kind of surreal to see Jadeja looking so ineffective. Like obviously far from ideal conditions but has been a demon in the BGT for so long that the dynamic of the game feels very different without his efficient threat.

Even if India get rolled, it will still likely be a draw as Australia will probably bat again, eat up more time. However if they enforce the follow-on after ind collapse, then Aus have a chance. There's 4-6 sessions left.

Odds
Aus 3.40
Draw 1.35

IMO Australia should have declared at 350/360 and taken a couple of tired Indian wickets last night to pile on the pressure on deflated India. Then try to run through them today. Instead they have gone for the safe option and I doubt there's gonna be any result now.

Rain where I am at the moment. We're about 30 mins north of The Gabba though.

Showers rather than constant rain too.
