I 100% believe that some teams use "playing slowly" as a deliberate tactic. It's too obvious a pattern not to be
Absolutely. Stokes' whinging to the media has been to try get the rules changed so he can engage in his gamesmanship. England need to stop the batsmen getting a rhythm.

Ironically all that it'll probably do is just fast-track them bring in a shot/over clock.
I could see them caving, especially because a couple of non-English have come out in support. Then we'll get to see England winning by bowling 78 overs a day to keep their fast bowlers fresh and their field micrometrically adjusted.

I've seen the argument from English fans about "wouldn't you rather see 78 overs of exciting cricket than 90 overs of dull cricket?" which I think is extremely flawed. Given how England are playing I'd rather see 90 overs of exciting cricket haha

The problem is that the over rate is slow because of between ball conferences where there's no cricket happening. Nothing's more dull than nothing happening.

Is it just me or is Santner getting better recently?

Now the BCs need to keep their mind on the job and not throw it away from here.

He is either getting better or test batmen are getting worse, probably a bit of both, Santner is 32 now which isn't that old for a spinner, it's peak age.

Working with Herath continues to pay dividends:

“Rangana (Herath) has been really good. Obviously in Sri Lanka and here, he took wickets all over the place. I think he was a master of that change in pace and that guile. Working with him, not just me, as a spin bowling unit has been really good, especially in these conditions that we’re not too similar to. Over here it’s playing with the seam angle a little bit more and getting one to stay down or one to bounce up.”

He wasn't a great test opener to be honest, he was more club standard but we were struggling for test openers back then and we've had worse.

Jeet Raval played way more test matches as an opener than he deserved, I can't remember him playing a decent knock of 50 let alone an 80 odd.
Batted well against a very good SA pace attack iirc

Slightly unsporting of NZ not to enforce the follow on instead of trying to actually win the game.

England would’ve caved anyway. Clearly they’ve been on the golf course all week and would happily get there again asap.

Yeah, remember watching him hooking Rabada at the Basin when he was bowling like the wind.

What a scorecard to wake up to. Have England just lost all intensity here because the series is over?
O'Rourke bowled a great spell and got the ball a bit earlier than usual. Getting Brook first ball obviously makes a big difference.

I saw Brook out there practicing his golf swing when he noticed the camera on him. All this ‘we’d rather be playing golf’ stuff comes across as arrogant and disrespectful, a convenient cop out.
