4th and 5th stump plan to Lokesh and Kohli works a treat - both of them can't help playing loose shots - while Gill continues to throw his wicket away with sloppy batting.

Bowling hasn't been exceptional but it doesn't have to be with this lineup. Only Jaiswal can score big hundreds in this top 6 and he was sawn off first ball.

Let's hope we get bowled out quick enough now so that Bumrah can get the new ball under lights

Won’t be many quick singles with these two portly gentlemen at the crease

If anyone's wondering why Lyon is spinning the ball less this days (aside from being 37), left is the 2014 India test at Adelaide, right is Perth two weeks ago:

Even I can't deny that's our session. Was quite worrying the way the bowling and fielding instantly went slack after that dropped catch, but some loose stroke play (especially from Kohli) handed the momentum right back. We need to come out with greater intensity after lunch now.

Felt like a bit of a race to the bottom in the second half of that session. Starc has bowled well and Boland deserves his wicket but otherwise that was really going one way before India decided to just donate three wickets for no particular reason.

Interesting. The line has moved slightly more towards Australia. I would have thought it would move more towards India as more betting from India came in but it has gone the other way. Interesting. Aussies paying 1.71 now.
Indian fans gambhiring with their hard earned now. Interesting development.

Pant is extremely quick when he wants to be (or used to be pre-injury)
Yeah, it puts a visible strain on his face to run fast these days, but he was very acrobatic before. I think it has also affected his square drives; seems loath to put too much weight going forward on that right knee. Sadly, these aren't the kind of issues that get better with age.

Yeah I think we do need to bowl a bit fuller and wider to him than we have been. Make him play that shot off the front foot.

is it an effect of his injury or a gradual change
I'll have to trawl through more footage. I first noticed in 2020, but I think its got more pronounced since then, especially this season.

Lyon actually started off more chest on, but when he got more side on was when he really hit his stride in tests. He's relied on putting maximum spin on every ball and bowling consistently, pretty much the opposite of Ashwin who's always using subtle variations. I feel that since he doesn't spin it that much now he's going to have to try bowling a little slower.
