Contrary to popular assumption, sloggers in ODIs who try and smash from ball 1 don't translate as well into T20. I see what happened to Afridi happening to Kapil too.

You need those bats who are capable of actually building a knock and then accelerating and the only two who can do that are Botham and Imran.
I won't chastise you for not paying attention to T20s, but for these guys, the job's definitely to slog ASAP lol.

But none of these guys are likely batting in the top 6 in a T20 meaning they will be selected primarily for bowling ability. In which case it's either Hadlee or Imran who have a bowling set that will work in this format.
Bar Hadlee, all of these guys will normally be batting top 6 in T20Is.

But you overlook the fact that Kapil wasn’t a mediocre swing bowler who would get smashed. He would adapt to the situation. And he was a much better ODI bowler than Botham, so you can’t equate them in those terms
I think bowling averages of that time are a bit deflated since you didn't have aggressive bats and higher run scoring.

Kimber mentioned recently that Gary Gilmour could have been a gun T20 cricketer way above how he was rated at the time in Tests. A bit before my time but seems like a fair call.

Tony Greig would have loved it too.

Whatever it takes!!!
The guy who scored a very quick 80 with Viv Richards in the 1979 final. He would have been a good shout as a great T20 allrounder as well, I think.
