So it did not happen the route I expected (four early wickets but then England go big with substantial fielder assistance), but the end result of England scoring 500 for a big lead, is about what I expected after our middling 350.

Don't think they'd have to bowl that badly. The pitch is roading pretty hard now, 400+ is definitely achievable in NZ's second innings. But they'd have to bat extremely badly not to chase down 250 on day 5.
