IPL Auction

Always find the fees given to some players baffling. Whereas other guys who are better go unsold or go for peanuts in comparison.

I honestly think there is a certain level of nepotism in selections. As the coaches mainly pick their countrymen as their selections.
Like any auction, needs to be just two people interested at whatever level, even an unknown can go for triple their asking price.

I've always thought they favour Aussies in particular, but I suspect that might change when their franchises get their hands on the ECB franchises.

I just dunno how Adil Rashid has only bowled 60 deliveries in the IPL.

One of the best white ball spinners for nearly a decade now.

Moeen hasn't had any bother getting a deal every year.

So I'd like to think that isn't the reason in Rash case. But I can't find the logic in him not getting picked and or played.
Ipl team owners are idiots. They pick medicore players like marcus stoins and josh ingllis rashid wasnt buyed becuase they believe that aged players dont do wll not because of heritage . rashid played for hyderbad in 2020

Probably because IPL doesn’t fancy overseas specialist spinners so much. Maharaj is the exception.

They like mystery spinners as well as Afghans

Favouritism obviously plays a big role e.g. Ponting has been a major Fraser-McGurk booster & his team is paying him $1.6 million

I didn’t see his part of the auction but wouldn’t be surprised if other teams simply drove the price up in the knowledge that Ponting would massively overpay

Jake fraser was absolute gun last season on highways. Hope they have fair pitches this season so that frauds like him and abhishek sharma are found out

Pravin Tambe played at 44. First selected at 41. Brad Hogg would have been older, Muralitharan and Imran Tahir over 40 as well.

from cricinfo ....Vaibhav Suryavanshi, at 13, is the youngest player to be picked at an IPL auction. He had made his Ranji debut when he was 12 and was more recently picked in the India Under-19s....
Gives Freddie Adu.....

I, of course, don't know the financial and economic circumstances around, but this type of thing can go horribly wrong if not handled properly just from an emotional and developmental perspective. I would not allow my 13 year old to do this, except the parts where maybe he has some access to coaching and mentorship. But it's easy for me to say since I am not facing particular economic hardship. It's like being a child actor - it usually results in a lot of issues that you have to overcome.
