A fine fifty from Kphli, the haters will say he only scored it due to a flat track and that India were well in front when he arrived at the crease, well not me.

1) Plenty of rice, a bit of daal (usually a small cup with maybe enough for 5g of protein) and some sort of vegetable dish

2) Dosa with sambar, chutney etc, maybe with potatoes

3) Chappati with 1-2 vegetable dishes

hmmm, a cup of dal with rice should be about 20 g of protein. Dosa with sambar about 10 g as a pretty small snack. A single chappati is about 3 grams of protein so if you have a couple of those with some veggie dishes it'd probably around another 20 g of protein for the evening meal. So total of 50 g protein daily for what would be a relatively low calorie day overall (unless the whole lot is smothered with ghee).
So yeah I would say total calories and lack of fresh veggies would be more of an issue than protein. If you want to say that you'd get more with meat then you should factor in that you'd just be eating more calories overall.

If someone needed more protein/calories they could simply eat a bit more dal with their rice.

A sports person/active person would need more calories then that overall so if you just simply doubled that intake it's 100 g protein. That is plenty even for athletes.

Surely they supplement with whey protein as well - 2 scoops a day with some greek yoghurt gives you an extra 90g

There's bioavailability of protein to be considered too. And the sheer quantities of non-animal protein you have to eat to meet your daily requirements as an athlete. There's a reason why no serious, elite strength athlete is vegan from the get-go. Everyone builds their base and aptitude off conventional meat-based diets and then switches to plant-only while still staying on cycle.

- bioavailability is mostly a myth, and mostly pretty much equivalent. we're talking like 95% vs 100% or whatever. Not really even worth considering.. Unless people just straight up forget to cook their lentils and are eating them raw which would be kinda weird.
- I just demonstrated 100 g of protein pretty easily giving the examples Daemon provided, which are not particularly high protein. If you wanted to increase the concentration you could just increase the ratio of dal to rice, or use brown rice rather than white etc etc.
- No one needs like 400g of protein on 1000 calories a day. That isn't a thing. That's not an athletic advantage, it's something the bodybuilding industry made up to sell some whey powder.

his issues are mostly against spin. still decentish against pace.

should play the eng series and then there is a 2 match series vs wi at home.

Schedule the matches in delhi-mumbai and retire rohit-kohli.
