I want to lose some money tonight, so maybe I'll start betting on match stuff. I've avoided it this series so far cause I lost a ridiculous amount of money at the casino last month, but its too fun to be irresponsible.

Indian batting also sucks and is very brittle. I could easily see the situations being similarly reversed if Aus had batted first.
Yeah as amazing as this comeback has been, these are still two poor batting lineups as soon as there’s movement on offer.

I suspect the conditions being juicy and easing up etc will continue to play a relatively bigger role in the series because of the batting fragility vs bowling class. Good luck to whichever team bats under the lights in the pink ball test.

Don't think Marnus can be doing that outside of the crease
Errr what is Marnus doing there?
Siraj is well within his rights to ask the question there. Wtf is Marnus doing?
Marnus skating on thin ice, very lucky to still be out there.
India would be well within their rights to appeal for that.
I suppose it's never been tested but that can't be considered defending your wicket, from the the ball spinning back onto them, surely. Surely you've gotta be back in your crease before you can start doing that
I think that would be a legit "hitting the ball twice" if he made contact!
What actually happened here?

Marnus dropped the ball to the legside, was hovering out of his crease and as Siraj ran in to pick up the ball he knocked it away.

Was just the second cheating incident of the day from the Australians tbh, nothing noteworthy.

Ended up costing India a whole run iirc.

Only slight hope for Australia is to get India out for 350 to keep the target under 400.

So, hoping openers fall early and then the new ball just before and after lunch takes care of 4 or 5 wickets.

Just as important as runs is time - if India can bat 2.75 sessions, even if they only score 150-175 runs in that time - it'll be a huge deal. Hopefully, the cracks really open up by tomorrow.

It's the old England strategy. 'Batters failed? Drop a bowler'. The problem with the batting is that we are bereft of clear replacements. And even if there were guys knocking at the door, what would it take for the current batsmen to be dropped anyway?

One thing that seems increasingly clear is that McDonald is not the type to inspire superlative performances or get out of form players back into form. As irritating as he is, McCullum has done a great job at getting performances out of some pretty mediocre players. And there's the technical flaws too. Who's out there considering that maybe they are standing too open? Who's helping Head with his weakness to full deliveries from around the wicket? Who's helping them rotate the strike?

There's also an element of 'preparing to fail'. I don't know if it was possible to play the Pakistan series at a different time, but even then the batsmen should have played what Shield opportunities were available. And Cummins has bowled exactly like you'd expect from someone who's barely played since July. He needed at least one Shield match to shake the cobwebs off. I'm sure he's bowled plenty in the nets, but it's hardly an unpopular idea that net time isn't really a substitute.
Except he has? Turned marsh and head into top tier batsmen for a period, got smith out of his slump around 2023 for ~15 months, got green out of a slump when he moved him to 4 before the back injury.

Aside from that, why are we blaming the head coach for this? Sounds like the batting coaches job.

What's up with Jaiswal this morning? Completely different approach to yesterday.

Maybe they've been told to be more positive before the 2nd new ball or something.

going to be a 300-350 plus run defeat for aus here. ind will get atleast 500-550 lead by (0/191) by tomorrow and declare. currently the lead is 237.

Not a good sign for the rest of the series. The bowlers look like they have peaked all at once, which is the main issue....
