Is this really true?Steve Smith's record vs Bumrah outside Sydney:
Avg of 0.5 and SR of 3.3
Wild stat.
It's probably true in the way that weird small sample size things can be true because I think it's all of four innings, all very short, and I'm pretty sure Ashwin got him most of themIs this really true?
Smith has the one test in Sydney vs Bumrah where he was run out for 131 and Ashwin got him for 81 2nd innings. Is this really true?
We should rotate spinners. Want ashwin to play in gabba mcg and scg. Hope he once again has smith numberSmith has the one test in Sydney vs Bumrah where he was run out for 131 and Ashwin got him for 81 2nd innings.
He now has 3 other tests with Bumrah outside Sydney so 5 innings, 1 not out, 10 runs @ 2.50 with 2 wkts from Ashwin and 2 wkts from Bumrah.
So Bumrah has got Smith twice in 7 innings, not a big deal (Ashwin has him 3 times from 6 innings in same tests)
Kohli only plays well in netsIf aus fans were like barmy army they'd have written a song for Kohli not being able to play spin or pace
But them not being like barmy army is a good thing so idk
Does he though!!?????Kohli only plays well in nets
Too much intent too little resilience. It's Rohit's fault.I think Aus will still win this series. Both teams' batting is shot but India's doubly so without someone like Pujara to occupy the crease. I remember in their last two series here, it wasn't just Pujara that had the mindset of just playing for time. Feels like there is a change in mindset now.
Surely no one was sincerely criticising Bumrah's performances in those games? Just pointing out the bizarre statistical anomaly that is his record vs NZ. I thought he looked absolutely terrifying in that first game in particular, and could easily done to NZ's top order what he did yesterday evening to Aus's had it not been for Conway sticking it out and somehow not nicking like a dozen different balls. That's an incredible scoreline. I went to bed when India were seven down and, regardless of form, the script is usually that Australia are 100/0-150/1 at close of play in these circumstances at home. It usually involves Dave Warner jumping and punching the air either late in the day or the following morning. too.
Bumrah incredible. I thought he was over-criticised in the NZ series as he bowled unplayable spells in the first test, yielded many many plays and misses, but didn't get a bag (3/70 still not bad). The other test that he played was a spinner's wicket. Absolute fire on a pitch like this Perth one with pace, seam and a little swing, and this harder Kookaburra ball. Looks like Siraj bowled better than other recent matches as well.
Still kinda expecting conditions to level out and a team make 300+ second innings, but we'll see.
What are the merits? They certainly weren't on display yesterday. Not only did it help them miss or nick the ball, but if anything it made it harder for them to drop the ball to get much needed singles. The strike rotation was poor.I understand the merits of the open stance defensive technique but it really does leave you so vulnerable in conditions like these as you get squared up and stuck on the crease.
Pretty quiet opening to the series tbh. Not a lot going onJust logged on. Did I miss much?
He didn’t ask for a report from inside your head ffsNot a lot going on
The theory, at least as I've seen it expressed by current day batting coaches, is that it helps you line up your off stump better and it allows you to access the straight ball more efficiently, which in principle turns good balls on the stumps into scoring options all over the legside. It also makes you lethal against anything short as you're already in a natural position to pull or cut. The downsides are... well, we saw them. What are the merits?
