Chappell was better against pace and bounce. More consistent as well.

Lara better against spin and has ATG knocks and series under his belt.

Lara gets the nod but you can make a good case for Chappell.

I think Chappell was a more solid batsman v all kinds of pace. He has some great knocks in England and New Zealand.

Lara much more proven v spin and was the king of independently setting games up when he got a sniff on good tracks.

Yeah. I think Chappells lack of a full SC career kind of holds him back. Would be very hard to vote against him if he had that.

If he had a successful tour of India v Bedi, Chandra&Prasana, I think I'd vote for him here. And I think he was capable. Lara does have a big "on his day" threshold though.

Chappell's record is also a bit lackluster in England, especially given its the only country he toured regularly with a solid attack. Had a great series vs Hadlee, but lots of weak attacks in NZ and WI was also against a weak bowling attack (though had a good tour during WSC).
