2024–25 NZ domestic season

Any ideas why Bowes batted so low in the second innings? Jacobs' sixes over long off look impressive. Auckland heading for a good win despite Blundell showing some form.

Has massively remodelled his action. If he's the one who gives Finn a massive spray after the worst **** in domestic history to get out, then he's my hero, too.
Specifically logged back into this site to see if anyone noticed Finns reaction after his dismissal.
I loved it (Allen getting a spray) and it def looked it was Van Beek who got him pumping his T20 chest out.

Man I love the Plunket Shield.

Nice knock from Jacobs again, his father used to coach my district cricket team back in the Under 15/17 days out in West Auckland, interested to see how he progresses.

Fun round. I do like both Keene and Kristian Clarke as young seam bowling allrounders to bracket with N Smith and Foulkes as possible NZ options. Keene's bowling action had lost all its drive last season, looks a better Danny Morrison impersonation now.

I see he's South African born - tall big-hitter so far reminds me a bit of Josh Clarkson. Looks like he bowls medium pace but hasn't bowled yet for Auckland - odd they're playing him as a specialist bat at 7. Anyway pretty much a match-winning partnership between him and Keene in the third innings. Or alternatively, Wellington blew it despite the 86 run first innings lead.

Pleased to see those runs from Chu, and Cleaver too actually. Feel like both Fletcher and Cleaver's drops in form last couple of seasons might have been partly because they'd seen their NZ chances narrowly slip away. Also looks like Sunde kept wicket for Auckland in the second innings, instead of Fletcher.

Not a great time for the young batters - Abbas, Parkes, Heaphy, Boyle, Severin, Sunde.

First time I'd seen Lennox really flight and turn a few. We don't have many domestic finger spinning prospects, maybe he will come into the picture after Ajaz retires, though turns out Lennox is 29 and only 3 years younger than Santner.

Shayne O'Connor's son and Cam Paul, who missed the under 19 WC through injury, seem to be picking up a few wickets in the A and Development XI games.

Development XI look like they will get what looked like an unlikely win. Great run chase. Stackpole did relatively well in the under 19 WC iirc.

Mate of mine has big raps on this kid. Similar to GP, born in SA but moved to NZ at the age of 3.

Anyone here seen much of him?
I scoffed at his first few boundaries last week, they are as ugly off side drives as you can get. More Jacob Duffy than Bevan Jacobs if I was doing a blind identification test of tall plunket shield batters in a navy blue helmet.

But, watching his innings ball-by-ball I'd say he's one to watch out for. He has a method of 'ultra intent' of getting balls into his zone and attacking those, but defending the good balls. Unlike Allen who also scored runs in same match but was all shots, no brain.

Daryl Mitchell (ish) I would describe him.

But very raw, and making his FC debut at 22 and a half is surprisingly late. And he batted 7 first innings and 8 second innings. IIRC Canterbury used him as a white ball finisher.

I'd predict that he'll get an NZ white ball selection probably quite early, because he sure can whack it. Because of how hopeless the nz domestic season is usually structured, once this happens he'll barely play anymore FC cricket again. So the potential of a Brooks/Head type test player will never get a chance to develop. So, probably white ball only career if he makes it. The longer it takes him to 'make it' the better he will be IMO, but I repeat the 22 and a half age , he's probably already behind schedule for the full rounded development.
