honestly post Lara (outside of Smith who is on a level of his own), Clarke and KP I think were the players most capable of innings that no other player in the world could play but f me he was inconsistent. could never pull off a 4 ton series like VK in 14/15.

I think just looking at average and making such a statement is futile. Though if he manages to average sub 45, he very well can.

I meant that he has to bat so much more **** to end up with sub 45 average that he can end up worse. Not based on average, but the type of cricket he needs to play to achieve it.

Pietersen didn't play long enough for that. I don't think he'd have declined this bad but we don't know for sure and Kohli had a much better peak.

Greenidge opened, averaged 50 at the end of his peak and had a very long career. Greenidge v Kohli might become debatable if Kohli just keeps sinking.
