Boycott was an opener as well and he gets my vote

I don't think Kohli can take much credit just for playing on if the performances aren't really there. The argument for him over Boycott is he was a more complete batsman in his prime.

The best example is Sachin Tendulkar.

In the last 3 decades, I have seen quite a few batsmen who are better than him at his peak.

But no one comes even remotely close to him in terms of consistency and excellence over a long period of time.

1970-71 Australian Ashes, if short tours like the SA 2013 one count, 77-78 Pakistan tour counts as well, you can count the 1981 Windies tour as well.

Kohli frequently has better peak performances. The issue is he had a patchier career than Boycott.
