Yeah well in a general sense that is true, but if he is indeed crocked again this time it must have happened pretty much in the last 24 hours or so considering he was in the wider squad named
I can only tell you how CA/QC handles a guy like Bartlett

MRI every week whether he’s got a niggle or not

Only allowed to bowl off a few steps until last week and then only at medium pace

Given permission to play grade on the weekend but only as a batsman

etc

He’s been selected for Australia A and I don’t think anyone should be surprised if he pulls out as they are intent upon erring on the side of caution

Bartlett is not in the Aus A squad, he's in the Aus T20 squad.

We've had some genius leadership today.

1: win the toss and elect to bat on a damp green pitch on a day with showers forecast, when it's forecast to be dry and warmer later in the match.
2: with your team in dire straits, make a footworkless slash at a wide half volley and hit it straight to point.

Moises Henriques, ladies and gentlemen.

Is mcsweeney unironically the best candidate to partner usman up the top? Basically opened this match.

And no I don't buy that it's the primarily the weather. Look at two Brisbane tests. In 1974 vs England the pitch got absolutely soaked before the match yet eventually was a somewhat rough but hard, bouncy, surface with a modest amount of grass. In the 2022 vs SA there was far less rain and warmer temperatures in the lead up yet the pitch was damp with a thick layer of grass.
It's not about the immediate short term weather in the leadup to the game. It's about the six months to a year beforehand which increased soil moisture loads enormously in the top 1m of the ground, leading to much softer wicket blocks underneath the top as opposed to the concrete blocks we used to have. You can look at the BOM data now vs say 2019 if you don't believe me on how much this has changed.

In that particular 2022 test, rainfall was average to below average in Brisbane in the two months leading up to the test, and it was not unusually wet overall. In 1974 rain was above average, and that was earlier in the year when evaporation is less. Meanwhile if we look at the NSW match today, the pitch is green and damp on top despite three months of below average temperatures and warmer than normal temperatures.

Even if your theories were correct, this is only tangential to large amounts of live grass being left on the pitch. You can look at the WACA pitch. Perth has a very long-term rainfall deficit, especially pronounced recently. Yet many of the Shield pitches have thick, green grass on them. Whereas you look at a classic WACA pitch from the 70s and it's nearly white. And in SE Aus, 74-76 had above average rainfall without exceptionally green wickets, while last year was generally below average and they were often very green everywhere.

The groundsman can easily cut the grass off, or use the covers to exclude moisture if it does rain and kill it and then roll it into the surface. To grow that amount of grass even in Perth, with no rainfall, it'll require watering which will make the top layer of soil soft which will make it hard to get a firm surface regardless of what's happening deeper down.

Genuinely am glad to see KPat back and making some runs, must say there were times where I thought me may not play anymore First Class cricket at all. Pleased that isn't the case

He's been triggered in the 90s off the rank part time off spin of Angus Lovell. First decent ball he's bowled but Kpat not happy with the decision

Yeah wicket fell literally just as I got up to get a beer. Ah well, bit of a shame really but still a good innings in the context of when he came in

Agreed on Lovell's bowling being decidedly unbrilliant

Should be the end of Gilkes for a while.
Absolutely. I know they've shoehorned him back in with the gloves for this game with Philippe off playing for Aus A, but that seems more like a one off sort of thing, no way he should be in the team at all when that series is finished

Anyone get a good look at Floros with the ball today? I've never seen him bowl and unfortunately couldn't today either but I heard good things last year from someone who played against him. Like every other bowler in the country though he's apparently crocked half the time.

Saw a bit of him earlier today. Looked pretty good to me, real big unit who hits the deck at decentish pace, although perhaps did bowl a little too short at times. Definitely right about the injury thing unfortunately, commentators were saying a bit to the same effect
