Would Shane Warne have been an ATG Test Captain?

Bowlers have to worry about their own bowling. Must be pretty mentally and physically draining if you have to bowl 20 overs and not be able to tune out for a bit all day. If you have a bad spell it might be tough to focus on anything else as well.
There are exceptions like Cummins, Imran, Benaud. A spinners it's not quite as taxing.

This, a 1000 times this.

Just feel they generally over bowl themselves even in the best of times.
Imran strangely enough was accused of doing the opposite. He would bowl his new ball spell, bowl the others until the ball got old, then bowled his old ball spell.

Of course he did some longer spells when needed.

Could also be an issue (though less likely, I assume most bowlers want the ball). Refusing to bowl themselves when its best for the team.

I've seen this as well.

I've just always thought it best to leave the captaincy to guys who don't have potential conflicts.

Not a particular fan of Cummins as a captain, but I will say he doesn't seem to have any issues either over- or under-bowling himself.

Cummins is one of those few whose bowling is significantly worse as captain. Though a lot of those bowlers either filled in or captained in the middle of their careers (then got dumped) rather than at the end.

Cummins as captain
28 matches 50 innings 105 @ 24.00 7 5’fers 1 10’fer SR 46.4 3.75 WPM (2.1 WPI) 29.05 OPM (16.27 OPI)

Cummins not as captain
34 matches 65 innings 164 @ 21.59 5 5’fers 1 10’fer SR 47.1 4.82 WPM (2.52 WPI) 37.91 OPM (19.83 OPI)

He'd probably have lost more games than Waugh did trying to win. Well if he did what he always said in the commentary box that is.
Waugh was extremely aggressive in that way as a captain anyway. Had a few crazy declarations that nearly cost them games. Can't think of any specific games where Warne could have gone a step further

Waugh did have a problem of letting games drift on the field if McWarne didn't automatically take wickets.

I think the players would love him. He'd have had strong support from people like Ponting, Symonds, McGrath and Hayden. He probably wouldn't have been on the same wavelength as Buchanan the coach though.

In terms of the majority of the bowling being pace are there instances of spin bowling captains who have struggled for that reason? I'm not familiar with what the attack under Benaud was like.
Benaud was a very aggressive Skipper in the field. If you check results of percentages won vs tests played I think you will find it quite high
