Compared to?Batting in the top 3 is harder in NZ.
Then Kane Williamson would have found it easier in India, South Africa , Australia, England ,Sri Lanka to score runs ?Because the stats you referred to weren't at all about the top 3 and the ones I showed were. Batting in the top 3 is harder in NZ. Meanwhile you're acting like the bowling figures that show the numbers are all within 1-2 are definitive for your point.
Root is there too imo. The AUS blip is a bit overstated and I bet on him to correct it this time anywayThe only batsman from the Fab 4 era that will end with a truly elite record (50+ average and well rounded record) is probably Steve Smith
I don’t see him averaging in the fifties at the end of his career but we will see. The Ashes is massive for his legacy. It will be a bit awkward if he doesn’t have a hundred in Australia after like 20 games but I think he could do it.Root is there too imo. I don't really think there's anymore difference between averaging 50 and 49 than there's between 54 and 53 or 46 and 45. Only 1 run difference in average is significant for a single player in history (okay, was 0.06, but still). And while I don't think Root can legitimately end up in Smith tier, he definitely should in Ponting one. Not like Ponting himself covered all the bases and I think everyone unanimously will take Root in Australia over Ponting in India.I don’t see him averaging in the fifties at the end of his career but we will see. Because succeeding at one difficult thing makes you successful at them all? Then Kane Williamson would have found it easier in India, South Africa , Australia, England ,Sri Lanka to score runs ?
Every set of conditions has its own challenges , so maybe the difficulty is succeeding in a variety of conditions rather than one condition being superior to the others.Because succeeding at one difficult thing makes you successful at them all?
Agreed somewhat although I don’t think most people will see it that way after his career is over (see Harvey/Boycott). Do you have Kohli in Pontings tier as well?I don't really think there's anymore difference between averaging 50 and 49 than there's between 54 and 53 or 46 and 45. Specifically the only difficult one in NZ is batting against a new ball. Particularly the first new ball.Every set of conditions has its own challenges , so maybe the difficulty is succeeding in a variety of conditions rather than one condition being superior to the others.
Harvey not being rated is a skill issue imo.Agreed somewhat although I don’t think most people will see it that way after his career is over (see Harvey/Boycott). Do you have Kohli in Pontings tier as well?
Harvey was great, but he also played in an era the Ws has crazy stats, though at much flatter pitches. I rate him about there as well, Weekes slightly ahead of Walcott slightly ahead of Harvey slightly ahead of Worrell. His record in England, being in an era scoring in England was even more important for an Aussie than today, works against him. Boycott suffers due to selfish reasons more than anything else. Like, I don't think I would had rated Viv any different given he went at 49.8 instead of 50.8.Agreed somewhat although I don’t think most people will see it that way after his career is over (see Harvey/Boycott). Currently? He is fine at home imo. 2 matches vs Bangladesh is hardly enough sample size. Looked really good in the NZ second innings as well.I think Kohli is still India's best batsman outside the subcontinent but pretty cooked in his home conditions.
Think he is past it in Asia tbh. Was never great on actual turners&against capable attacks there but those problems have naturally become much more pronounced with age and that has coincided with rank turners becoming more frequent in India.Currently? He is fine at home imo. 2 matches vs Bangladesh is hardly enough sample size. Looked really good in the NZ second innings as well.
So he's going to fail in England next year, given he now lives here!I think Kohli is still India's best batsman outside the subcontinent but pretty cooked in his home conditions.
I'm just gonna bookmark this.I don’t see him averaging in the fifties at the end of his career but we will see. The Ashes is massive for his legacy. It will be a bit awkward if he doesn’t have a hundred in Australia after like 20 games but I think he could do it.
