I never said that either. I have always held Warne's record v India against him. You are projecting false narratives.
Sangakkara started his cricket way later than Waugh did. He was way underprepared than Waugh ever was to start with. Still he bit the bullet and scored.

Honestly? I think he was bowling a bit too much in the India series.

First Match – 48 overs
Second Match – 16 overs
Third Match – 43 overs
Fourth Match – 8 overs
Fifth Match – 3 overs

and now for his batting

First Match – 29&2 = 31 runs
Second Match – 5&16 = 21 runs
Third Match – 18&7 = 35 runs
Fourth Match – 122*&11 = 133 runs
Fifth Match – 26&84 = 110 runs

Verdict – LET ROOT BE A ****ING BATSMEN FOR **** SAKES.

Yeah and with his back problems, best he doesn't bowl too much.

Tbf Kuldeep barely bowled and Ashwin was a bit out of form.

It’s not impossible but pretty unlikely he’ll do well in Aus. Especially since he doesn’t play out as many dot balls anymore under Bazball.

Yeah don't think anyone is saying it's the greatest innings of all time. Just a good knock and a welcome mature and productive innings after the reverse scoop dismissal. On the whole, it was a disappointing series for him.

Yeah agree. He shouldn't have allowed himself to get that careless again after the first innings dismissal in NZ and the good way he responded to that. I think aggressive batting might be a better bet for him than his natural game v gun high release pace attacks (although the reverse scoop is pretty low percentage anywhere) but elsewhere (especially in Asia), he really should just play his game and hopefully that's what will happen from now on. He's definitely fixed his conversion problems.

He'll probably be successful in Australia, their home attack isn't nearly as terrible as India at home and Cummins has looked toothless since 2022 BGT, Starcc has completely fallen off and Lyon is in form but spinners aren't really a threat to Root at all.

too good a player to not have a big series of Australia imo, he constantly gets starts in Australia, he just needs to convert a couple. He isn't like Ponting in India or Dravid in South Africa who looked perpetually hopeless and weak, he isn't really weak to Bounce either like Dravid was to Bounce or Ponting was to spin, It's mostly mentality problems imo.

Reckon, this can be the closest Ashes down under in years

Australia will not lose to England at home. And it won't be close either. Australia have enough talent in the bowling reserves that even an injury or two won't derail their home Ashes.

Waugh only played 5 innings in SL and did well in Asia elsewhere. Don't think that's much of a point against him. The New Zealand tour you're talking about came when he was only 20 and probably not ready. He started very early because of the Australian rebel SAF tour.
Steve Waugh also got a pair of 25s when NZ thrashed Aussie in 1990 in Wellington* which was after Waugh averaged about a million in the 1989 Ashes.

* There were a pair of tests (famous Greatbatch drawn test in Perth at the end of 89 and this one)
